Ashland Posted May 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Should I be worried about the fire in Alaska affecting my northbound Alaska cruise coming up this Friday Vancouver-Anchorage via Seward ??
Rare donswife Posted May 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2014 I'm sure there would be something on the cruise news page if cruises were being significantly impacted. It will likely be smokey though, unless they get a good rain before you arrive.

Lisa6of6 Posted May 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2014 We've been following the news on it, and I believe from what DH tells me that it looked like the fire was to the west of Anchorage so getting to Seward shouldn't be a problem. Glad to hear there is rain in the forecast. I'm sure that if something changes because of the fire, Celebrity would contact passengers... wouldn't they? Northern Aurora Posted May 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2014 We've been following the news on it, and I believe from what DH tells me that it looked like the fire was to the west of Anchorage so getting to Seward shouldn't be a problem. The Funny River fire is actually southwest of Anchorage. It is located off of the Sterling Highway roughly south of the community of Soldotna and east of Kasilof. It is a great distance away from Seward. We flew into Anchorage on Sunday and there was enough smoke that the mountains surrounding Anchorage were partially obscured by the smoke. And today in Fairbanks we have had smoke from that fire all day. The National Weather Service has confirmed that smoke is from the Funny River fire as it was able to sneak through the passes of the Alaska Range. The smoke is thick enough that we can't see the Alaska Range to the south.
