aachasman Posted May 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I've read that ships are required to turn off their "towers" while in port. So on embarkation day can I assume this is true until the ship pushes off or is there a certain time when the tower is activated? Thanks
RMLincoln Posted May 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2014 You can use your cell phone in port on your own service, not the ship's service, in any port that your cell service has a signal. For smart phones be sure to turn the phone off as the ship leaves port so as not to rack up huge costs for data through the ship's service. Others can answer more detailed questions. sail7seas Posted May 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Ships have to shut down their service at a certain point when they enter a port. Use your phone on your own service. Check to be sure you aren't on roaming.
mamaofami Posted May 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2014 . I've always used my phone in port during sail away being sure to turn it off a few minutes after we leave. My grandson likes to watch the web cam in FLL and talk to us as we back away from the pier. Typhoon1 Posted May 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2014 You'll be picking up signal along the Florida Coast. The phone will enter roam mode when you are using the Cellular at Sea.
roberts2005 Posted May 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Go to setting and change your carrier to manual. Never pick the ship's service and you will not have an issue. You might pick up a carrier 30 miles out
