schlimazel_traveler Posted June 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2014 I just booked 2 Celebrity cruises, one for January on the Silhouette and one for next May on the Summit. I suppose most people would have done this in the opposite order, but NOW I'm reading reviews. People on the recent sailings of the Summit are describing a great lack of onboard activities. Someone said the cruise director announced they'd done away with such things as Bingo and trivia. I guess we are not very hip because we really LIKE trivia, game shows, silly contests, karaoke, and that type of cheesy stuff. Someone posted links to the daily schedule for a 2012 Bermuda cruise on Summit and it was full of things to do. But that was 2 years ago. If they really don't have this sort of thing on the Summit--or on Celebrity ships in general--any longer, maybe this isn't the best choice for my traveling party? (I also read that people were very, very unhappy with the buffet restaurant, noting great deterioration from previous sailings.) I know there is "entertainment," but we don't just want to watch a show or hear a concert. Can someone who has sailed recently fill me in on the interactive activities onboard? KellyW25 Posted June 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2014 I just got back on Sunday, and there were a TON of activities. Just off the top of my head, there was trivia, Karaoke Idol (your fellow passengers vote on performances and there is a final competion on the last sea day). Seminars at sea (Captain Demitrios even hosted one). There was a flash mob, Bingo, casino tournaments (Blackjack, slots, maybe more), passenger vs officer volleyball, passenger vs passenger volleyball. I read about a scavenger hunt. There was also some sort of "selfies and groupies" photo competition. sounded fun, but I didn't participate. I'm leaving out a lot of activities, but trust me, there is a LOT to do on the Summit. There were a lot of varied musical performances around the ship, seemed like more than last year. The buffet was not as awful as I feared.
CruisingChick Posted June 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) I also just got back from the same trip on Summit to Bermuda. The one noticeable thing that is gone is the Enrichment series - Beyond the Podium - Guest lectures. They are not doing them any longer on Bermuda cruises. DH and I really enjoyed all our past guest lectures. They did still have their Oceans Ahead talk given one day by the Chief Engineer and another day by the Captain. They also had things at night - Sin City Comedy (we didn't go), Concert under the Stars, 70's Disco Fever, Liquid (which is held by the indoor pool and was very strange if you ask me - trying to be like a South Beach Nightclub). They had the Liars Club and the Newlywed/Not So Newlywed game show. We thought the buffet for lunch was very good and an improvement over last year. The Main Dining Room for dinner was excellent.
