Smoking policy for balcony adult's only pool?

I just want to know a few basics about MSC.

I am particularly interested to know if there is an adults only pool area, and the smoking policy.

I am just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

I'm not sure what ship you are wanting to sail but from what I've gathered here, on the Divina, there is no adult only pool (unless you count the small hot tub/pool in the pay area at the bow of the ship) and smoking is not allowed on the balcony.

Thanks-it is Orchestra and Splendida I think are the names of the 2. Both leave out of Germany. I saw in a video that the Orchestra had a solarium pool, I was just hoping it was adults only

On Divina the "pay area" at the bow , I take it you mean the Yacht Club (you pay in the fare to be in the YC););)

or you mean the adults only solarium (which is at an extra charge:mad:) on deck 18 just in front of the funnel and behind the main pool deck area

OR, maybe you've seen pictures of the crew R and R area right on the bow of the ship:D:D

Yes, the Solarium pool is what I meant. Sorry, I thought it was at the front of the ship. Anyway, the Solarium pool is adult only but you have to pay extra to use it. There is no free adult pool on the Divina as there is on other cruise lines.

No, wasn't thinking of the Yacht Club, that's an entirely different animal! :D

Not sure what you mean by a solarium pool but I can't recall any adult only outside area or pool on the Orchestra.

The Fantasia (sister of the Splendida) had an adult only area at the aft of the pol deck with its own bar. It was where the then a la carte restaurant (now YC restaurant) was. Some passengers completely ignored the adults own notices and brought a few kids with them and there I'd not appear to be enforcement of the policy. That said there were just a few and they stayed with their parents and were not running riot. Not sure if MSC still use this as an adults own are on these ships or not.

I do not mind paying extra for some peace! Sometimes it is better to pay a little as it is less people there. As long as it is halfway reasonable. On HAL for a 10 day we paid $100 per person which I did not find too much. $10 a day. How much is it? One cruise is 4 day, the other is 11 day.

I also wonder if you can buy it by the day, as sea days would be when we would have the most time to use it if it is pricey.

Solarium is a covered outside feel room/ area. I thought that was the Brit term. In the US we often call them sunrooms or Florida rooms but cruise ships usually call them solariums and on cruise ships they normally have pools.

I watched videoes on youtube and I may have mixed up which ship had the solarium pool area, Anna Mondo.

Does the other ship have that? that is the 11 day cruise anyway, so if only 1 had it it , I would rather it be the other.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Fantasia class have an adults only sun deck that you pay for! can't remember the price but if you search under Top 18 on here it may come up. There isn't a pool though and it is not covered.

Other than that, I can't think of what you are referring to. No pools in covered sun areas on any ship I've been on, adults only or otherwise.

Skier 52 said they had one in the above post but if they meant a sunbathing area- Iam not interested. I want a pool out of the sun.

so there is none?

The youtube video I saw was made by a person taking a cruise-so I don't think it was a crew area.

As an FYI, people sneak into crew areas all the time. ;)

Doesn't the Fantasia (the actual ship, not the class) have one pool with a sliding roof that the other ships don't have?

The only one I recall is the Magrodome over one of the main pools but that is a huge area and not adults only - it is full of kids and has kids pool sections in it.

There were quieter areas on the upper decks but they didn't have a pool, just hot tubs.

They used to have an aft pool beside what is the YC restaurant that was meant to be adults only but it wasn't in the shade.

okay the video is by someone whom calls themselves paranoiab-it is Splendida and you are right lots of kids there. I am hoping since this is an 11 day cruise in May-perhaps less kids.

The one I saw on Orchestra was by a travel agency and when I looked at again I realized it was the spa area and those were just hot tubs-but still nice-what is the fee for there? I would enjoy that. Now that is the 4 day cruise.

€16 per hour usually. Sometimes they have specials on where you can get it cheaper. They also sometimes give free seasions if you buy a massage or other spa treatment.

I do not want a massage I want to use the hot tubs-oh my goodness! No deal for the length of the cruise.

HAL's deal was $100 a person for a 10 day partial Panama canal cruise.

It is looking less and less like we will try out MSC that is just too long a cruise for us to be unhappy.

I am not too happy with MSC either, they have never replied to our email where we asked if they offered a shuttle/coach from Kiel to Hamburg. It seems it did not matter to them they could get a new customer whom would book 2 cruises with them,15 days total.

I guess you are thinking if HAL offered that deal for the spa pool why not go with them. Well HAL has way too many smokers since Celebrity and Princess stopped balcony smoking. A few smokers never bothered me, but when there is a large percentage it does. Even if we did not book a balcony, we would still have the problem around ship as we did on that 10 day Panama canal cruise. Except for the spa pool-lol! that is!

When we where on Divina last year there was no charge for the solarium area which was supposed to be adults only but was never policed and was always full of kids. There was a separate spa area on a higher deck which was charged for but we didn't use it.Smoking was not allowed on balconies but is allowed in the casino and certain bar areas and on one side of the pool deck.

Wotaripper,,we were on Divina in May and smoking was NOT allowed in the casino, however smoking was allowed in the cigar bar and on the starboard side of the ship.

The ships I am considering are Orchestra and Splendida. Ann Mondo is from Britain and seems very familiar with all the ships, she said no. I am guessing neither of these are the same class as Divina.

No matter Ann has convinced me I would hate MSC. I am no longer willing to do 15 days on MSC for a first cruise with them. Maybe I will try them for a Caribbean cruise some time, as it won't cost me as much.

NCL is one of my least favorite lines, but I am begining to think they are a better choice for me as I know what they are like. The September 24, 2115 NCL Star hits all the ports we want in a repositioning cruise and their spa pool, which is adults only, is $200 a person for a pass for a 12 day cruise.

I think every cruise line allows smoking in the casino-no problem for me as I am not a casino fan anyway.

The problem with our last HAL cruise was, since their competition has stopped the smoking on balconies, they have a much higher percentage of smokers. It was close to 50%, when it was 20%, I had no problem with HAL.We even had a chain smoker next door to us on our balcony on a cruise in 2008, but it was not a problem as the smoke quickly dissipated. I loved HAL back then. it seems a small amount of smoke dissipates quickly.

Our last HAL cruise, there were much larger amounts which carried over to the not smoking areas nearby the smoking areas.
