smhicks33 Posted June 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2014 First timer here sailing on Vision on June 23. Couple of quick questions. Are there phones in the rooms that you can use to call from one cabin to another, kind of like in hotels? Also, can you use cash to pay for extras, such as specialty restaurants, or do you have to have a credit card (or debit card)?

Yes, there are stateroom phones that you can use to call other staterooms, no charge. All onboard spending is done via your onboard account, by a crewmember swiping your SeasPass (room key) card. At the end of the cruise, you can pay the account using cash, credit, or debit card. You choose the type of payment during pre-cruise online check-in. If you choose a cash account, Royal will let you charge up to $500 before they ask the balance to be paid down. All purchases made onboard are done with your sea pass card, no cash.
cruiseguy1016 Posted June 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2014 Phones are also located around the ship (near the elevators, for example) so that you can call staterooms and such.

Thanks, Ken for answering my tack-on question before I even asked! ;)

OCruisers Posted June 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2014 The only cash you'll really need will be for things you want to buy on your port stops. Also, for any EXTRA tips to your cabin steward, bartender, etc. LuLu
nascar junkie Posted June 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2014 You know when you think of it, the cruise lines are really smart to require to use of the seapass for on board purchases. 1. When people have what amounts to an unlimited credit card, they tend to spend more. 2. No employee theft issues here such as dipping in the till. 3. No time consuming balancing of cash drawers and transporting money all over the ship. 4. Accounting is all automated. #1 is probably the biggest reson. Just need to check your account daily and keep all your receipts to balance against their ledger. They do make mistakes.
