Walking to downtown

Can anyone provide specific directions on how to walk from the port to downtown? I see everyone says it's a short walk but I don't see the route to take. Any help is appreciated.

Walk to the end of the pier to the Information Center. Behind the center you see the taxis. Continue walking and stay to your left and you will see the street. When you get to the sidewalk, make a left and just continue walking into town. You'll see other people walking into town, just follow them, yes it is very easy, about a 20 min. walk.

Per above, it's very easy.

Another option is the water taxi. :)

How far of a walk is it to the water taxi? How do we find it?

Thanks!

It's a 5-10 min walk. There's a big blue sign, high in the air directing you to the water taxi, which will be on your left, once you leave the pier. There will also be a tram on the pier to take you close to the water taxi, no charge, but everyone gives a $1.

Keep the water on your left and after getting out of the shops/booths at the port area and turning left, it is a straight road.

Lots of stores along the way.

There is also a water taxi which is a snap and drops you in the center of downtown.

We paid $7 dollars for a round trip water taxi from the ship to downtown. On our last trip we took the water taxi to town and then walked back to the ship. Though it was a nice walk, I prefer the water taxi. The walk is good for burning off calories!

We would like to visit a store on Front Street. Is that where the water taxi drops us off?

Thanks!!!

Yes the water taxi stop is next to Front St but Front St is a VERY long street and you may still have a 15 minute walk depending where abouts on Front St the store is.

Watch carefully where the water taxi stops.

It could be the second stop that you want. Often it makes a quick stop before getting to downtown. If in doubt, ask. We've seen people make the mistake of getting off too soon.

If truth be told if the particular store the poster is planning on visiting is at the end of Front St nearest to the pier then the water taxi stop at Bobbi's Marina might indeed be closer to that store then the stop at the downtown pier.

Very easy and nice walk! It's short, there's lots of interesting little shops/stalls along the way. It's right on the water so you get a good view and sea breeze and there's lots of big shady trees. I would definitely recommend walking it unless you've got mobility issues.

We try to walk as much as we can on cruises (to burn off the extra courses @ dinner and buffets and so on!) but sometimes I get sorely tempted to take a cheap taxi, like the walk from port to town in St Thomas. But the walk in St Maarten was a pleasure, not a drag at all!

Great information. Does anyone know if there is a Harley Davidson store near the pier?

There is a HD store on the island, but there is no longer one anywhere near the Cruise Facility and downtown Philipsburg.

Google maps for Orange Grove.
