Need NOLA hotel suggestions for night before the Dream...

Hi everyone,

We'll be in New Orleans December 20th (Saturday) to board the Carnival Dream on Sunday. I need a fairly inexpensive place that has either connecting rooms or a suite with a separate bedroom. We'll have our 2 little ones with us and need a separate room for them.

I was looking and B & B rooms but some won't allow children under 7. I have a 5 year old and a 10 year old. I wouldn't mind them being in a room next to us in a B & B (even without a connecting door in between). In a hotel we'd need that door between us.

I'd love to hear your suggestions! Oh, and it would be a bonus if they allow us to park there for free during the duration of the cruise!

If you are looking for a park and cruise that's reasonably priced you might have a tough time. Parking in the downtown area is at a premium. They aren't going to let cruise guests stay there and not charge ya for it. On the other hand what's reasonable to you? If there are only four if you and your kids are that young I don't know why you wouldn't just get one room?

A few if the hotels were coming in right around-$200 and then about $120 for parking. Some of the hotels had shuttle some didn't.

Rather than spend all that we went with a decent hotel-Quality Inn in Gretna-less than $100 for the night, pickup and drop off and 7 days if parking. It wasn't fancy, but it worked.

We stayed at the Quality Inn and Suites 2 years ago and park and cruise was $135 for the week. This year it had gone up to $137 or $139. Gretna is not the nicest area, but with jazz fest going on, it worked well for us. This year we got a casino rate of $69 at the Wyndham Riverfront ( a couple blocks from the port) Parked in the port garage for the week for $16 per night. I would be hesitant to leave my little ones in a separate room in New Orleans unless it is connecting. If you are not worried about cost there are chains like Doubletree, Sheratan, Lowes, Hilton, Westin, etc. in the downtown area All should have connecting rooms available. There are plenty of hotels in Metarie near the airport which is about 20-30 minutes from downtown for much less. . Good luck!

Do any of the ones in Metarie have a park and fly rate that you know of? The last time we stayed at Quality Inn in Gretna, the hotel was so bad, we vowed never to stay again unless something changed. Have you been there recently? How was it?

We were there about a year and a half ago. The hotel was ok ... We figured since we weren't going to be there long, we would be ok . It was ok, clean and the people were very nice.

We stayed there two years ago. At the time our options were limited due to the Jazz Fest. Like the previous poster, we were there such a short time, it was ok. Since then, we make sure to book around Jazz Fest. I don't know about park and fly rates. Sorry. I would just call the properties directly and ask them. Hope you find something suitable.

We were there last April (2014), and I think it was the week before Jazz fest. It was just awful. Like no shower curtain, no toilet paper roll, tub was dirty, floor needed vacuumed, just not clean. Restaurant service was substandard too. They were really full though and maybe it was a bad day for them. The previous time we were very pleased with it. Hopefully they have made some changes in management. I may look at them again.

Ok, so I think we can mark the Quality Inn off of our list! Yes, we CAN have the kids stay in the room with us but we'd really like to have them in their own room. My 5 year old still naps so it's hard for the rest of us to tip-toe around her sleeping. I'd love to find a hotel suite with a separate bedroom with a door. I know Homestyle Suites does that but I don't think they have free parking. We might just end up getting 2 rooms with a connecting door.

We sailed Navigator out of New Orleans in 2012 and found an excellent rate at Harrah's. It's hit and miss as far as room rate goes, you have to check frequently and when you find a rate you like, book it.

Harrah's is very close to the port and within walking distance to French Quarter.
