pbrady Posted June 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2014 We have been to the ruins & are not the Cave Tubing type. We are trying to arrange a private tour (4 of us) & what I am reading is that a licensed Taxi driver at the peir is probably just as good as a pre-arranged tour. Comments? I've looked at several sites but I'm not seeing too many "must see" sites. If you have any recommendations, they would be very appreciated. Thank you! Rare crewsweeper Posted June 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2014 I think it's catch as catch can on a "tour" by a local taxi driver. Might be a tad cheaper, but then you're taking a chance the driver knows a lot about the local area and can provide a good commentary. There are some private vendors, like Nacho and Cynthia at NCQBelize Adventures, who have solid knowledge of the area, the culture, the history, and can take you around to interesting sites. My short list of Belize City proper sites are: North of the swing bridge, near the Tourism Village tender pier-- Baron Bliss Lighthouse (you can walk to this) Marine and Coastal Musuem (you can walk to this too) US Embassy (near by as well) South of the swing bridge-- The Cultural Museum/Government House, ex old Governors mansion, across from St John's Anglican Church (a bit further but walkable) St John's The new market place (need a taxi and have them wait for you). There are other places outside the city like the zoo (native animals refuge) and Belikin Brewery that may be of interest.
