Rare APDMOM Posted June 23, 2014 Author #76 Share Posted June 23, 2014 Thanks for the detailed review. I'm sure it helped a lot of folks who are getting ready to sail. We were on the May 31 Liberty sailing, the week just before you, that went to the Western Caribbean. I agree there was too much smoke in the Promenade area. We also loved the band called Music Boardwalk. I also miss the live band by the pool but did enjoy the Serenity area that had some shade. We had a blast overall, as did the two other couples with us. Thanks for sharing! :)
Danacat222 Posted June 23, 2014 #77 Share Posted June 23, 2014 I hope the smoke is not a problem for you. I am extra sensitive to it, as the smoke triggered my choke reflex. I don't know why it was so bad this time, but I coughed a lot around any smoke. Even the diesel fumes from the excursion truck got to me. I think most people are not quite so sensitive to it, so hopefully it will be minor for you. I have asthma, I hope no problems, my time in the casino is very limited, i would hate to have to limit time on the balcony.

I really hope it works out well for you! The smoking was more than before, but there were still times during the day I could enjoy the balcony. It was an inconvenience to have to go inside, but I did get some time to use the balcony. I just wish I could have used it more.
mamawg Posted June 23, 2014 #79 Share Posted June 23, 2014 It is a lot of fun! On our 8-day cruise it was offered on embarkation day (Saturday), day 4 (Tuesday) and day 6 (Thursday). It was just under $20 with the gratuity. DH and I shared. :) Thank you. We are doing an 8 day too, so hopefully we will have the same chances for the tastings.:)

Rare APDMOM Posted June 24, 2014 Author #83 Share Posted June 24, 2014 As I am cleaning out and throwing away the last of the papers we received on the cruise, I am scanning a few that I think may be helpful to others. Here is the Room service menu, along with "Good to know" info. Unfortunately, it was a poorly printed copy, so it looks like it is double print:

Rare APDMOM Posted June 24, 2014 Author #88 Share Posted June 24, 2014 Excellent review! You don't happen to have the Duty-Free liquor order form with prices from the ship, do you? Unfortunately not. Next time! :D I just know the Bailey's was cheaper on the ship than in the duty free shop in Grand Turk. We ended up not buying it though.

cuted126 Posted June 24, 2014 #90 Share Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Once we got settled into the cabin, we tried to wash hands to go to lunch. Oops! No water in the cabin  There was just a small stream trickling out of the sink. So, wet wipes and hand sanitizer had to do the job. We found that there was no running water in the buffet either - all the drinks were basically syrup. At least there was hot water for tea. We also found some waiters with pitchers of water. The water issue was fixed by the time we sailed off. The water in our cabin got turned off one more time during the cruise due to maintenance - a minor inconvenience. However, in addition to other issues we experienced on the ship, it may be time for a dry dock? More about that later - I definitely do not want to put a damper on anyone's excitement for those who will be cruising Liberty soon. All the things were minor to us, but for some it may not be acceptable. On to the good stuff! Tip: We found seats upstairs by Fish and Chips. Emile's was packed, but there was only one table taken upstairs when we got there. It was so nice and quiet. We ended up eating here a lot during the week - just carrying our meals up the stairs. There are plenty of booths and most people do not discover this area until later in the week. We enjoyed deli sandwiches (Rueben & Pastrami on rye). DS had baked chicken, which was very tough. After lunch, we went to the Golden Olympian to see if our e-mail request was honored. Sure enough, we were assigned a table for three - surprisingly in the Golden Olympian, even though we did not have my time dining. More about our great dining experience later... The muster drill was pretty painless and standard. They dismiss one side of the ship at a time to avoid crowds. Fortunately, we were on the side that was dismissed first. Time to leave our land legs behind! Sailaway was spent on the balcony. We first watched Sunshine sail away, followed by Disney Fantasy Yes!!! Me and the hubby LOVE this area!!! cuted126 Posted June 24, 2014 #91 Share Posted June 24, 2014 Great review and beautiful pictures!!! I also dislike the hip hop that is played on Lido:mad: I LOVE live music, especially island music. I really wish they would bring that back.

I also dislike the hip hop that is played on Lido:mad: I LOVE live music, especially island music. I really wish they would bring that back. Thanks! I hope they make some changes. I completed an online survey after the cruise. In the survey, they ask what kind of music we prefer - up to 3 choices. Hopefully enough people will indicate island music :)

PaulMedik Posted July 3, 2014 #98 Share Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) APDMOM, Over the years we've seen a lot of maintenance similar to what you captured pictures of; On Legend we watched them replace the glass around the outer Promenade deck that would need replaced again just a few months later when Legend drifted in to an RCCL ship. We've also seem them replace a lot of balcony glass; glass that looks fine, but for whatever reason they take it out, clean the grooves, and replace with new glass. I've been looking through my pictures to find what ship we were on when they replaced the windscreen glass on the top deck exactly like you got pictures of; it might have been on Liberty, but I think it was Freedom and she was less than six months old at the time. Apparently if there are microcracks in the glass that can't be seen, they still find them? The first time I noticed routine maintenance going on was in 1989 when I swear our entire ship was repainted, and since then we've seen entire stairwells on the upper decks replaced with new decking and hand rails, stages dismantled on deck and replaced with stages that look the same, and ceilings dismantled and replaced in clubs. All involve lots of heavy sanding, grinding, drilling, painting, and fresh coats of varnish. Personally I find it fascinating that so much routine maintenance is done and I enjoy watching how they do it. I'm 48 now and enjoy it as much as I did when I was in my early 20s. Maybe even more now.... Perhaps I'm just getting younger. :D Edited July 3, 2014 by PaulMedik

Do you remember approximately how much time you spent or would need to allow to do the Martini tasting? Might like to do before early dining, but want to allow enough time. Thanks.:)
