Hotwire or Priceline Galveston

Has anyone had success using either Hotwire or Priceline for a hotel in Galveston or other hotels near Bayport ?

Not sure yet of where we want to stay... DH wants to see Space Center so thinking of hotel near there first nigh, and then renting car and going to Galveston for a night before cruise.

PS..I have tried the bidding site and will check it again nearer our cruise date, but curious if anyone on CC have done this.

We had 5 or 6 rooms booked in Galveston through Hotwire this past April. We got the Howard Johnson Express which is not a particularly nice hotel, but it was only $45.
