Car rental in Lubeck??

We are going on the Azamara Journey on July 17, and one of the destinations is Lubeck Germany. We would like to rent 2 cars and go to into Schwein. Does anyone have a suggestion of obtaining a rental car that would be close to the port??

We're on the same cruise as you and we looked at options for a car as well. Maybe one of the locals knows better, but we found no good options. There are no car rental agencies near our dock in Travemunde (Ostpreussenkai). Hertz has an office at the other dock in Travemunde where the ferries dock, but it was a long walk with limited transit opportunities. The best option was to walk a couple of blocks to the train station and take a train for about 30 minutes into Lubeck. There are 4 good car rental agencies in the immediate area of the Lubeck HBF station (Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz, Sixt).

 

For us, we decided not to do that. But, given that we have 12 hours in port, it might be an option for you.

Thank you for the information. There are 7 of us, so we will rent the car from Sixt which we love. We were in Ireland last year and had a great time exploring that way. Thanks for the info. By the way, how are you getting to the ship when fly in? We are flying in from Ft Lauderdale that day and are exploring our options.

Probably transit, but we're going to already be in town the day before and will have a transit pass to see the city. Bus 76 goes within a couple of blocks of the ship or the train to a nearby station.

 

If you're coming from the Airport, I'm not sure what would be best, because it would be several changes in trains. Hopefully, others who are more familiar with the airport can chime in on the best way between the airport and Vartahamnen port.
