Mary Ellen Posted June 27, 2014 #26 Share Posted June 27, 2014 That would be too crazy, I doubt you would be able to see much of anything especially when the ship was moving. I agree. Anyone who has looked down the side of the ship on a sea day has seen the water churned up. The "view" would probably be similar to watching a front loading washer. Actually, the view would probably be better with the washer.
Rare cbr663 Posted June 27, 2014 #27 Share Posted June 27, 2014 Watch this youtube video. It gets interesting at the 1:25, 1:37 and 2:02 minute marks, the last includes an appropriate expletive! Wow - did you see the mermaid? :D
Jackytar Posted June 27, 2014 #28 Share Posted June 27, 2014 I'll pass, thanks. I've lived in a mess deck below the waterline, so the novelty's kind of worn off.
CaveDiving Posted June 27, 2014 #29 Share Posted June 27, 2014 I think it's a really great idea. I'd book the room in a heartbeat. Scott & Karen
HPINE1 Posted June 27, 2014 #30 Share Posted June 27, 2014 I would take a port hole below the water line if it had a screen and you could open it up.
shipgeeks Posted June 28, 2014 #31 Share Posted June 28, 2014 Yes! What a wonderful idea. The water in the Carib and other cruise routes is so clear. It would be better than an excursion on a semisubmersible or glass-bottom boat. While tied up in port, we have seen turtles in Tortola, an extremely large manta ray in Bridgetown, a 6-foot shark in Cozumel, and numerous other beasties which are usually only seen while snorkeling. To be able to look out while in our cozy cabin would be great. We'd probably never go ashore.
Eng23 Posted June 30, 2014 #32 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Been there done that. We were cruising on the "Star Clipper" (four masted schooner) and our cabin was above the waterline UNTIL they opened the sails and the ship keeled to our side. I went to the cabin to get something and YES our porthole was underwater!!!! It was a strange sensation. Hello neighbor! I bet that was a strange sensation! Eng23 Posted June 30, 2014 #33 Share Posted June 30, 2014 There are no windows below the waterline.....if there are, get off the ship....it's sinking! I gotta agree on this one! :D

ehfl Posted June 30, 2014 #35 Share Posted June 30, 2014 It would be great to have one of these cabins while at anchor in Cayman. The harbor there has a nice reef, clear water, and lots of fish.
