I didn't know that. I thought there was not any nicotine in them? If they do, they I absolutely agree that they should not be allowed!

Not bashing you (in fact I agree that they do contain nicotine) but we all know that just because something is on the interwebs, especially wiki, it means it HAS TO be true, right? ;)

If it is a trustworthy source, they would let them use it for research on school projects. They don't allow it in our school because it isn't trust worthy and answers can be changed!!

 

As for the nasty smoking habit regardless of source, I am accustomed to one small area on Disney for that. I hope my upcoming sailing on Norwegian isn't a huge disappointment. I keep my body healthy I don't want others polluting it!!

Sorry to be one of the many to 'burst your bubble'. ;) Smoking is permitted on balconies, all open areas on the outside decks (except near outdoor food stations, i.e. BBQ at the pool), and the Casino..... There is also a cigar bar on most ships if weather prohibits outdoor smoking. I find most people are pretty considerate and do not deliberately go out of their way to annoy fellow passengers who do not smoke.

There are certain smoking areas on one or two small areas outside on deck 6 or 7 and the Casino. Unlike Carnival there is no smoking in any of the clubs or bars. The Cigar Bar is very small and located next to Le Bistro on the Jewel Class ships. The Breakaway has a smoking room (enclosed glass panels) on the pool deck. I agree most smokers are very considerate, I know we are

Did you hear about No smoking on balconies effective 11/1/14...That sucks. We're going Dec. 1...They should do it 1/15/15 after all Holiday cruises. Start the new year that way JMHO....P

LOL 'vape'. You do realize that the ecigs that use liquid nicotine in any manner what so ever are extremely hazardous to the smoker and those nearby right? In most cigarette manufacturing plants (including the one who packages their cigs in a red and white box and had a cowboy in their ads at one point), workers are required to wear full hazmat suits at all times when dealing with liquid nicotine.

 

No they aren't...As a matter of fact current studies contracted by the FDA are finding very little hazards to those nearby and minimal hazards to the vaper. And e-cig users are not smokers as their is no smoke involved whatsoever

Yep, they do. Nicotine liquid is poisonous, and there are reports of kids drinking it by accident and getting very sick. There is also nicotine present in the vapor. The e-sigs are still a safer alternative to cigarettes because it doesn't have hundreds of carcinogens that come from burning tobacco.

 

So, probably not safe, but safter

I agree should have given folks a little more notice. I thought only Carnival was that ridiculous. As of now we are booked Jan 2 and Feb 27th. that may change. My e-cigs have no nicotine in them so not even being able to use them is just pathetic. I use my non nicotine e-cigs when playing at the tables so I don't blow smoke in peoples faces and smoke my regular cigarettes on my balcony, On the upside if I cancel I save $15,000. :) My OS and My haven 2 bedroom may be up for grabs pretty soon.

Now the flavorings can any number of different chemicals. Propylene Glycol is generally recognized as Safe by the FDA in food applications and as a solvent in a number of drugs. It has not, however, been tested for safety in a heated, directly inhaled application. Probably the closest application to that is when it is used for theatrical smoke.

 

The Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) has compiled a standard for theatrical fogs or artificial mists compositions for use in entertainment venues that "are not likely to be harmful to otherwise healthy performers, technicians, or audience members of normal working age, which is 18 to 64 years of age, inclusive."[8] This standard was based primarily (though not exclusively), upon the findings of a report commissioned for ESTA by the Cohen Group[9] and applies only those fog fluid compositions that consist of a mixture of water and glycol (so called "water based" fog fluid).

 

Short term exposure to glycol fog can be associated with headaches, dizziness, drowsiness and tiredness. Long term exposure to smoke and fog can be related to upper airway and voice symptoms. Not sure if I would like to be inhaling that directly into my lungs. However, that is not the biggest potential issues with e-cigs. The biggest problem is with very small particles in the PM2.5 range. When being used inside, even in a fully ventilated space it can increase the number of particles into the unhealthy range. Particles in this size are tied to a number of health issues.

 

 

E-cigs are considerably better then regular cigarettes and probably will not negatively impact anyone except the user when used outside. I would not say the same when used inside, based upon the PM2.5 sized particle production, nor do I think that they are totally safe to the user themselves.

We won't know for sure on how less bad for probably 30-50 years when we can see the statistics on health issues for people that have gone their entire life using them.

 

If e-cigs use could be restricted to current cigarette smokers as a way to improve their health compared to regular cigarettes then I could see a relatively lax policy concerning their use. The problem is that they are not, instead you are seeing their sales aimed at non-smokers, especially younger aged. As a result you are seeing a fair number that would not have touched cigarettes trying e-cigs, which with the nicotine, will be just as habit forming. The health impact on those users we will not see in total for 40 years or so. As such, to prevent the next generations from taking up smoking I am for a rather strict policy on e-cigs.

Wow! As a nonsmoker, I thought the e-cigs to be very innoucuous. Thank you for the info. Will have a different view of them and their use around me now. Will look into this more.
