Prinsendam -Steam room and sauna * Entertainment

Hey from Germany,

we are thinking about taking the Prinsedam Black-Sea-Cruise in October,

Can anyone tell me if the Sauna is free of charge and how low the temperature is. There is a male and female sauna?!!

Actually we prefer it hotter, but never found a HAL-Ship with 90° +

 

How ist the entertainemnt onboard. As it is a small ship we will not expect any big production shows...?

The Prinsendam has good entertainment in the evenings. The production shows are good with 12-14 singers and dancers and lots of changes of sets and costumes. They also have comedians, magicians, and single entertainers brought onboard. We haven't used the tubs and sauna so we don't know how hot they can get. We do walk around the wraparound promenade deck to get our excercise on sea days. Then we relax on the loungers on this deck also. The showers in the rooms are fine.

We also enjoy the adagio strings and piano in the lounge, or the sing along piano player in the other lounge. There is also dancing to live music. The Crows nest has huge windows on three sides to look out at the sea.

A lot of our time is spent talking with other cruisers who seem quite compatible. The ports are new and interesting. You should enjoy the Prinsendam.

Just over a year ago, the wet sauna in the men's locker room got quite warm, in excess of 105°F. Pouring water over the rocks cooled the sauna and introduced a bit of moisture. The steam room was not operating.

 

I assume the women's locker room also had these facilities.

 

You'll not get big production shows but the entertainment was good over our 31 days aboard. They mix it up pretty well, but without a true showroom it's hard to do big productions. We enjoyed Adagio very much.

 

If you decide to go on this cruise, you'll find a very active roll call ongoing. Kazu does an great job with tours and activities.

The women's area also has a sauna. It was hot when ii used it. Entertainment is single and smaller number of performers, but I have found it very good. Some of the solo performers were very talented.

We cruised 14 nights on Prinsendam recently. We spoke at length with the cruise director and a few of the singers. We enjoyed the "Production shows" more on the Prinsendam than on any other HAL cruise. WHY?

 

The stage is smaller. Therefore, they have FIVE singers, and TWO dancers. Some of the singers also dance, but they were hired as singers. They explained to me that on the 'larger ships' there are usually two lead singers and a whole bunch of dancers.

 

Additionally, the Ocean bar band was the best we've heard on HAL. The pianist from the Adagio duo also played in the crows nest pre-dinner and was excellent.

 

We were very pleased with the entertainment on our cruise considering the small number of passengers compared to other HAL ships.
