Celebrity morphing into Cunard, good for few while the rest compromise?

I just returned from a 10 night mediterranean cruise on Reflection...Michael's was often occupied by suite guests. I also remember it being quite empty prior to this new suite program. I applaud Celebrity for the new perks for suite guests. The bottom line is, if you want the perks, book a higher end suite (just as if you want perks on a flight, you usually need to book something beyond economy class).

Thank you. Very well said. Maybe this issue will be put to rest.

This thread was posed as a question hence the ? at the end. In reality if you have cash you can spend it on what you want when you want. If by booking a Suite there are perks to it so be it. The only issue I have is what next. If the cruise lines start to limit the space on the ship, a private pool or casino area they would be reducing the space of the "average guest". The concern for me would be were does this "elite"effect stop. Refitting ships with additional suites does not have an affect on the price of the cruise for those using the suites it falls on all cruise whatever the category.

Enjoy your cruise wherever it takes you.

Celebrity and other cruise lines are always going to repurpose certain venues. Everyone raves about Michael's, the Wine Bar or the Bistro on 5. However, on my last two cruises, these places have been a ghost town. What is the value of having the space if no one uses it? I think they should be repurposed. The gastropub seems like a good idea but I don't know if it works.

One thing that amuses me about the class discussion is that some of the critics of the suite amenities receive benefits that others don't (AQ class, Elite membership). How are the suite perks different from the other perks granted due to a certain status?

Thank you, I've been saying the same thing.

BTW, I could care less what anyone else gets, as long as I get a cabin with a bed and bath, a seat in the MDR and am able to have a great time.

My only disappointment here is that DW and I are both beer aficionados. We loved Michael's Club in its biergarten incarnation because with the premium package we were able to try many of the different offerings. They have moved a few to Cellar Masters, but not very many. I think Celebrity's mistake with Michael's when turning it into a beer venue, never really realized what Michael's needed to be when doing this. They should have put in some televisions and offered sports viewing as much as possible. This is the kind of crowd that would have been drawn to such a place.

To end your concerns just move on/up and book Cunard. Cunard prices are very competitive, and dress codes are followed.

Example of pricing:

This September Cunard has 24 nights from Southampton to the Med/Greece/Turkey from £1499.00, while Celebrity offers 14 nights from Southampton to the Med from £2398.00

Now let me think, what is the better line and what is the better deal? - decisions, decisions, decisions

Why on earth would the OP book Cunard?? Their fear is that Celebrity is morphing into Cunard, & are not happy about it!

While I primarily sail on Celebrity I sail at least once a year on Cunard, specifically QM2 Transatlantic and if Celebrity is trying to morph into Cunard they are failing miserably. Cunard hasn't reduced entertainment, amenities, use of lounges ( Michaels Club) as Celebrity has done. Cunard has a suites concierge lounge centrally located in the suites area (eliminating inside cabins). On a recent Transatlantic Celebrity had an accordion player and violinist as the classic group. Celebrity has taken perks from some instead do modifying ships to provide for suites needs. I also understand that not all suites qualify for using Michaells club.
