nancycoop1 Posted August 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2005 Does anyone have any recommendations for excursions in Santarem? We will be there for one day on a cruise ship in April. Thanks
JLT Posted August 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2005 I will be there in October and will let you know what I liked best when I return. I will be on the Veendam and right now am planning to take the city tour which also goes to Alter Do Chao. Our ship also offers a tour to the Nat'l Forest (sounds kind of boring) and a trip on the Tapajos River which sounds similar to the river trip in Manaus. What are you planning for Manaus and the other ports?
earljr Posted August 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2005 Jean - we also live in New Port Richey and are doing Regal Princess - BA to Fll in march 06. Earl
JLT Posted August 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2005 I live near the old 54 and Little Road. I am getting my Visa and Yellow Fever shot this week. Does your cruise go up the Amazon and have you found any ways to tour without using the ship's tours? I usually prefer to go on my own but this time it looks as though I will be using the ship's tours.

JLT Posted August 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2005 I will definitely post when I return and let you know what we did and what we enjoyed most. I'm not planning to take the malaria meds. From what I have read there is a good chance of a reaction so I am going to use other preventative measures. I'm only taking the Yellow Fever shot because it is required - by Barbados, of all places.
