Noise level on the Diamond

Recommended Posts

We're considering various itineraries on the Diamond for this autumn. However, we're a bit befuddled by the arrangement of the cabins and public rooms. Based on the deck plans, most cabins seem to be near the casino, the show room, bars, or the dining room -- all noisy places. We like a quiet atmosphere, and we go to bed early, even on a cruise. Noise from the casino or lounge could mess up our entire trip.

Is noise likely to be a problem, or are the cabins well insulated from the noise of the public rooms?

Everything else about the ship sounds wonderful. It does seem strange, however, that the non-balcony rooms are actually larger (not counting the balcony) than the balcony rooms. Does that make them "sitting room" cabins a better value for the Caribbean?

Although the cabins are close to those areas, noise doesn't seem to be a problem.

Personally, I find the balcony cabins a little cramped, even for one person. But that's just me...I like open space. The balcony is small and somewhat enclosed, so I rarely used it. However, I loved being able to open the door and listen to the ocean while sipping my morning coffee. The sitting room cabins are more spacious, but it's a tradeoff if you like fresh air in the cabin. Both have the funky partial bathtub, which is the biggest drawback to the cabins.

Having said that, I'll probably be on the westbound transatlantic in the fall...so it can't be all that bad!

JoanandJoe,

We just got back from our first cruise on the Diamond to the Caribbean and the thing I liked the best about the ship?? Our balcony cabin! It was so cozy and comfy. The bed was so perfect - not too soft, not too hard. I was a little worried because I have a bad hip but it was perfect.

Our room was 933, just around the corner from the Club. Granted, there weren't a heck of a lot of people in there, (most of them were at the Windows Lounge), but we NEVER heard a peep. I couldn't believe how sound proof the room was. The only time we heard anyone was when people walked by our room on the way to dinner and were talking kind of loudly.

We really liked the Diamond balconies because they are completely separate from the adjacent balconies. Very private and wonderful for breakfast in your room.

As long as you are neat and keep things fairly well organized, I think a balcony room will give you plenty of space. Our room stewardess, Claudia, did a great job of keeping things organized for us, as well.

Have a wonderful trip, whatever cabin you choose!

Ginny

PS We were directly under Deck 10, right where the doors open from the Atrium. So once in awhile during the day, we could hear movement above us. Wasn't a big problem.

I love the Diamond. We were in a balcony cabin #739 and there was absolutely no noise problem!

Personally, I love the balcony and can't imagine not having it... but again,we use ours. Some say they've had one but rarely used it so for them the cabin space is more important.

The only time I had a noise annoyance on the Diamond was during a crossing & both cabins on either side of me were vacant. I could heard the safes from both rooms banging all night if the seas were rough. I should I told reception but don't really know what they could have done about it.

Other than that, no noise problem & you will sleep like a baby.
