satxdiver Posted July 20, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 20, 2014 Hands down it is Glacier Bay. If the weather turns bad which is often, Tracy Fjord has to be aborted or you can only go part way into the fjord.
Fletch1 Posted July 20, 2014 #27 Share Posted July 20, 2014 Looking to do an Alaskan Cruise from San Fran next year. Which is better Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm Fjord? I am leaning towards Glacier Bay but not 100% committed yet. Thanks for your opinions. Glacier Bay for me!
gmann Posted July 20, 2014 #28 Share Posted July 20, 2014 Glacier Bay without a doubt Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Novocruisers Posted July 20, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 20, 2014 I have done both and would recommend Glacier bay. More glaciers and you get closer to them. The sail down Tracy arm fjord is great but thou can not get as close to the Glacier.
jamscckmc Posted July 21, 2014 #30 Share Posted July 21, 2014 Princess has some southbound cruises that go to both Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay. Most CL do only one. I haven't been to Tracy Arm but Hunbard and GB are beautiful!
stringwoman Posted July 22, 2014 #31 Share Posted July 22, 2014 We've been to both. My favorite would be a south bound trip and Glacier Bay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RNRcruisers Posted July 22, 2014 #32 Share Posted July 22, 2014 If seeing a glacier calve is on your bucket list, then Glacier Bay is the pick. In Tracy Arm, you only see the Sawyer Glacier from a distance and will not see calving We went to Tracy Arm last summer, got quite close to the glacier and did see a lot of calving. It was our favorite day of the cruise, just a wonderful experience. Sailing down the fjord was amazing. I can't speak for Glacier Bay but Tracy Arm was not disappointing. Daisyloo Posted July 22, 2014 #33 Share Posted July 22, 2014 I just got back from a HAL cruise to Alaska and Tracy Arm. I can't comment on Glacier Bay as this was our first trip to Alaska. We all felt the day spent in Tracy Arm was magical! The scenery is stunning, the water colour a beautiful teal/aqua. The day we were in Tracy Arm was sunny, no wind, the sea like glass. We got all the way in, as far as cruise ships can. We had a beautiful view of the glacier and did see it calving. We were told that our cruise on the Zaadam was only it's second cruise this season to get all the way to the end, so we felt very fortunate.
