Ft. Lauderdale Hotel?

I knew I could count on Cruise Critic! Has anyone stayed there and if so, how was your stay? Was it nice and clean, close to restaurants, cruise port, etc.

Thanks so much!

Crowne Plaza Hollywood is actually in Hallandale Beach and is about 10 miles south of Port Everglades, so estimate a $25 - $30 cab ride.

The hotel itself is very nice, located right on the Intracoastal, with a nice casual restaurant and tiki bar downstairs. If you do not mind walking, you would have to walk over the bridge that the hotel is adjacent to for shopping, restaurants, Walmart, etc. Gulfstream Village (shops, restaurants, casino) is a little further away, as well as Downtown Hollywood, but you can easily taxi to either place, as well as to the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. There is an upscale sports bar about a 10-minute walk from the hotel at Diplomat Landing (across the street from Westin Diplomat).

Brunello22...thanks so much for the info. My mother is in a wheelchair so walking wouldn't be ideal and we'd like to save on cab fares. Would the GalleryOne be a good location for being close to the port and accessing restaurants?

Thanks again!

The hotels near the beach usually require a decent amount of walking to get around. The GalleryOne has great dining less than a 10 minute walk one way and the beach is less than a 10 minute walk the other way. Plus there is a Publix across the street which is good for wine/pre cruise stuff. Crown Plaza, IMO, is too far away.

If you don't mind not being at the beach, you really should consider the Embassy Suites or the Hyatt Place, both on 17th street. Excellent location and everything is right in front of the hotel inside the Harbor Shops. Both give breakfast/internet while the Hyatt also gives you a free airport shuttle.

Yes, Gallery One is excellent, and in fact I prefer the location much better. The Galleria Mall is one block away, and there are some nice casual/upscale restaurants adjacent to the mall and inside the mall at the food court as well. Cab fare may be around $20.

I meant cab fare from the hotel to the port is around $20, not from the hotel to the mall.

I have stayed at both hotels most recently at Doubletree Gallery One. There is a restaurant in the hotel where we ate breakfast although kind of pricey. I cannot walk long distances so took a cab to a nearby Italian restaurant for dinner. But since both hotels have a restaurant you can eat there if traveling with a w/c is a problem. Crowne Plaza has a nicer pool, Doubletree's pool is small.
