Dwight, We are on the Mariner, May 19th cruise. Agree that it may be a light cruise, that may not be all bad. See you on board.

Aloha Larry & Dwight:

We'll be on board too, from Kauai and starting to count down.

Our second trip on the Mariner and it is simply the best ship on the seas.

If it is a light cruise that will be great, although even the Mariner at full capacity is roomy and uncrowded.

I wonder how you can find out how many cruisers will be aboard?

Looking forward to May 19 !!!

Have a great weekend.

Here's two more who are looking forward to drifting to sleep each night with the gentle roll of the waves. Well, ok,it is the Pacific Northwest...

It really will be time to pack soon (who am I kidding, I always pack the night before)!

Aloha Cruiser,
Dwight,
goodfloat,

We are looking forward to this cruise. It will be our first on the RSS Mariner. We have sailed once on the Voyager and twice on the Diamond, and can't wait for another RSSC experience. Looking forward to meeting all you nice people. Count down to May 19th.

Speaking of packing, goodfloat, perhaps you could clue the rest of us about what to ex pect, as to weather, so we know what to pack. Obviously, we'll be leaving most of our normal Florida, May wardrobe (shorts & t-shirts) at home, but..... like warm-ups for day, sweaters, or light jackets????? or more???

How about meeting for a drink on board?

Larry,

The weather...that’s an interesting subject these days. I actually live in southern Oregon which is vastly different weather wise than the Northern part of the state but I do travel to Portland, on the Washington Oregon boarder, on a regular basis. Southern Oregon has already enjoyed several weeks of upper 70’s to low 80’s since March. Portland has also been enjoying some fine weather. Having said that, my plan is to take a couple of sweaters, good walking shoes that can get wet, and a light waterproof jacket/wind breaker. It might be a good idea to prepare for weather from San Francisco north to be anywhere from the 60’s to the mid 70’s on land. Has anyone sailed this stretch of the coast? I’ve done Hawaii to Mexico but I’ve never sailed in the northwest. This area is known for fishing vessel mishaps, actually I believe another one was missing last week. Our coast is a far cry from Florida, but it is really beautiful, even if it’s windy. I’m especially looking forward to sailing in to Seattle, Victoria, and Vancouver. I think that stretch will be stunning if the weather is kind.

This is our first RSSC trip but my fifth cruise. My husband has only been on two other ships since he doesn’t have the sailing “bug” like I do. I could live at sea! Actually, my husband’s last trip was for a family reunion. We had fun being with everyone, but the ship was clearly not a good match with our sensibilities. So, my hubby has still not recovered from those memories and he’s recently decided not to take this Pacific northwest cruise. That’s a bit unfortunate, especially since we’re celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary! But we all know, you can’t stay married this long if you don’t respect each other’s needs. I can certainly understand why he didn’t like the last cruise and I’m certain he’ll like RSSC. So, now he’s going to fly to San Francisco and meet me there so he can experience the Mariner for a day. My hope is that he’ll enjoy the quiet not-in-your-face- style and good food of RSSC and in the future he’ll be willing to join me at least once or twice a year. Meanwhile, I’m eager to relax and enjoy the cruise and I look forward to seeing our son in Seattle.

Maybe we can all (Betty, Aloha, Dwight & others) decide a meeting place for a bon voyage drink.

Hi Larry & Betty, Goodfloat, and AlohaCruiser...

Thanks to all of you for your great responses!

My wife, Sharos, and I are so looking forward to this trip and hope to be able to say hello to all of you soon! We have been on several cruises (we actually met on a caribbean cruise years ago) but we have not yet been on an RSSC cruise. At the moment we are booked on suite 913. Please feel free to call us when you are on the cruise.

Larry, what part of Florida are you from? Looking forward to meeting you guys...

Goodfloat....I lived in Portland for a few years, many years ago....graduated from David Douglas High School and went to U. of O. for a while... By the way, your packing tips to Larry were perfect. We look so forward to meeting you too.

Alohacruiser....you seem to be the senior Mariner cruiser here...you need to lead this group for a good place to have a bon voyage drink...since we leave at 6 PM from LA...is the Observation Lounge a good place to say hello as we cast off? First drinks are on me!.....maybe seconds... Aloha, we are also so looking forward to meeting you guys too.

Anyone with a good idea when and where to meet and say hello, please jump in!....this was just a suggestion.

To all of you, thank you for your response.

Best wishes for a great, fun, and long time memorable trip.....safe travels, and keep in touch. We hope to hear from you soon.

Let's set us a place to, at least, say hello and bon voyage...

Dwight & Sharos;

We enjoyed reading your post and are eager to meet you, and want to hear details of how you two met on a cruise. Now, just how cool is that?

We live on the east central coast of Florida, just south of the Kennedy Space Center, on the barrier island, between the Indian River(intercoastal) and the Atlantic Ocean.......Indialantic.

We do not have a cabin assignment yet as we are booked a guarantee.

goodfloat, thank you very much for your response. I do understand that May weather can be "iffy", but your suggestions are very helpful. Thanks!

Sorry your husband will not be joining us for the cruise, but perhaps we'll get a chance to meet in San Fran when he comes aboard. I think you may be right about the Mariner perhaps changing his mind about cruising. I'd venture to bet that other land-lovers have been converted by the RSSC experience.

Observation Lounge sounds good for bon voyage! You will recognize us by the big silly grins we'll be wearing anticipating a great cruise experience.
