On board account

Yes - and also anything else pre-paid (specialty restaurants, on board cabanas, spa, beverages, etc.) Also if your TA/family/friend gives you a PG dinner or other gift that counts just as if you paid it.

It has been my experience that prepaid excursions, etc ARE NOT counted as extra money spent for extra days. What I remember was that this was asked at a forum on the 2014 WC to Stein Kruse and the Mariner director, whose name eludes me. The question from the passenger was worded as to when these would be added in the count and the answer was "we are looking into it but there are no current plans".

Has the policy recently changed?? Know that OBC provided by friends, TAs, etc and spent on board does count, but any monies refunded to your credit card do not count.

I went on a cruise in December '12 where my GF and I had a cabin and her daughter and a friend had a separate cabin. I paid the entire bill with a single card. We (GF and I) did not get the cruise day bonus for the on-board spending for the girl's bill. With excursions, drinks, PG, shops, etc, the total final bill was over $2300 combined. The amount billed to our room was a little over $1700 and we got 5 bonus days. The girls got 2 bonus days.

Thanks. Your real life experience is good to know.

I was looking at the Mariner FAQ and found this: (emphasis mine)

All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases, for example, Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus Cruise Day credits.

But just to verify, I just called the Mariner Society line and the girl confirmed that any shore excursions, beverage packages, etc., purchased online prior to a cruise count toward the "onboard spending bonus"

This is from the Mariner Society FAQs, and as far as I know it has always been this way. I know we have always gotten spending credit for pre-booked excursions, specialty restaurant dinners, wine packages, etc. since our first cruise under the star-level system in Dec 2009.

14. Are any onboard charges excluded from the onboard purchases bonus?

They misunderstood the question, or they were ignorant of the facts. On a 2010 cruise we got twice as many bonus days from pre-booked excursions as we did from on-board spending. Edited by jtl513
