PG Future with RSSC?

Recommended Posts

Thulewx sent me a web site address that listed ships for sale. I was surprised to see the Paul Gaugin was for sale. I wonder what happens to the RSSC charter if the new buyer wants to put the ship into a different market.
It appears that the PG is quite successful in Tahiti, but that is no Gaurantee for the future. Gee, if the Diamond leaves the fleet, and if the charter for the PG was loss..Radisson would shrink real fast...could there then be a merger with someone else.
I'm glad I am sailing on the PG this September...just in case things change in the near future.
I am hoping that the sale of the PG would not impact a successful charter...I hope.

The PG has already been sold to Swiss Bank (late last year). As a result, the slots machines are now active again in the Casino. When I was on the Diamond in January, one of the captains of that ship had just returned from Tahiti. I am certain the people at RSSC have a plan in place if the relationship doesn't work.

PG sold a couple of years ago to a Swiss group and there was no change, so I doubt that any new group off investors would upset a profitable operation either. RSSC is committed thru 2005 for sure.

They charter the Diamond, and the contract is good through at least the end of 2005. They seem to be keeping up the ship as if the relationship will continue, but one never knows, it seems to be one of the great mysteries of this board, which Radisson monitors but never participates. So we are left to the conjecture of all the staff members we talk to when the officers dine or otherwise chat with the guests. I don't even report the tidbits I get, because they are just that, and I wouldn't think of getting an officer in trouble for reporting the wrong thing if it was read on this board.

The relationships between cruise lines and ownership of the ships they use are complex and differing ship to ship. Much too complesx for my feeble mind. However, best estimate is that the PG is safely in Radisson's use for the forseeable future. And should the time ever come to retire the PHYSICAL PG from the Radisson fleet, you can bet that Radisson will replace it with a similar but newer ship and continue the same itinerary. Why? Radisson knows well that a high percentage of its repeat cruisers were first introduced to Radisson by taking the PG and its unique blend of itinerary, service, and inclusions. The PG itinerary is one of Radisson's most effective marketing tools. They will keep it, one way or another (fearless, but somewhat informed prediction).

Thanks,
