canuckinindia Posted July 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) The Vatican Museum on Your Own Terms (No-Wait Access Vatican Tickets) 1. Has anyone had experience with this vendor? 2. Is something like this legitimate having a direct access past the main line and the tour lines also? 3. Will touring the Vatican without a guide be easy? DW prefers self touring if possible. http://www.darkrome.com/tours/vatican-tours/vatican-museum-tickets Thanks in advance for the advise. slidergirl Posted July 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2014 If you buy "bypass the line" tickets directly from the Vatican Museums, they are only 16EU rather than what Dark Rome charges (twice the price). Nothing different between them. You buy in advance and select the time you want to go in. No standing in the long lines needed. It's very easy to buy the tickets yourself on the Vatican Museums website. No need to pay someone to do it for you. It's easy to pick up your tickets once you get to the Museums - just follow the easy instructions and, if you get confused, there are very nice English-speaking employees to direct you to the right place... travelpeon Posted July 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Re #2- You bypass the general ticket line but do not bypass any tour group entrance lines. This is what was mentioned on tripadvisor for Dark Rome, now "City Wonders Tour". I don't know if it bypasses the online pre-purchased timed reservation ticket, but suspect it does not. There is also an early entry morning pass which allows ticket holders to see the Sistine Chapel with other early morning group tours, before the general admission lines (either via the line or Vatican online ticket) begins. http://www.darkrome.com/tours/vatican-tours/sistine-chapel-tickets-early-access

The OP said they wanted just the unguided tickets, not the tour. The unguided tickets they sell sound exactly the same as the ones you can buy yourself. This company only offers 2 time slots, while you can pick many, many more at the Vatican site. You're paying double the money for only 2 slots and to have someone stand at the door with your ticket instead of you taking your voucher to the window and picking up the ticket yourself. In my opinion, definitely not worth the extra money.

canuckinindia Posted August 1, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted August 1, 2014 So what I'm hearing is that a fixed time booking takes precedent offer this all-access. My main worry is to avoid lines that day while leisurely touring ourselves
kuldalai Posted August 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Pre book your Vatican Museum admission only, or Admission and Guided tour on line via Vatican Museum website . All tickets are date and time specific . Print out your voucher at home and take it to Rome with you . On the day front at the Vatican Museum entry (just walk pass the 1000m queue) 15 minutes before your appointed time. Show the doorman your pre-booked voucher and he will direct you to the Cassa (Cashier) who will exchange your vouchers for tickets, and you are IN . Simple as that . PS: Do NOT be late as they will not let you in if you miss your booked admission time. Saves hours of time. You can pre book all your main admissions in Italy for Rome, Florence, Venice & Pisa via tickitaly website.
