Renting A Car in Panama

We rented a car on a Panama Canal cruise a couple of years ago since my husband wanted to explore places he had lived growing up. We stayed away from the city so it was not scary or dangerous. The biggest problem was getting to and from the rental place which was at the domestic airport. It was expensive and hard to find someone willing to take us. Then, when we returned the car, the counter was unmanned and we had to leave the car without formally checking it in. Fortunately, there were no issues, but not sure I would do it again.
