We will be attending a football game while we're visiting London later this month. What is the best way to get from Doubletree Westminster to the Stadium??

Various options, but I think the simplest & easiest is:

 

10 minute walk from hotel to Westminster tube station, it's opposite Big Ben.

Take a Circle line tube from there to Liverpool Street station. That's "Liverpool Street", not "Liverpool". Tube trains run every few minutes.

At Liverpool Street take a regular local train (not tube) to White Hart Lane rail station. Trains on this route run every 15 minutes (every 30 minutes on sundays).

The stadium is close by.

 

Alternatively, from Westminster tube station a Jubilee line tube (direction of Stanmore) just one stop to Green Park then switch to the Victoria line (direction of Walthamstow Central)) to Seven Sisters. From there a regular local train to White Hart Lane station or walk - but it's about a 30 minute walk.

 

Buses will take forever, and a taxi will cost an arm & a leg.

The schedule on most websites shows the only two Tottenham (Spurs) home games in August have been switched to sunday afternoons. (Schedules do get switched for TV coverage)

As usual, you are a wealth of info... And correct.. I forget the game was switched, fortunately my DH knows the right day and I did put it correctly on our itinerary. How long do you figure it should take us to get to Liverpool St station! We'll want to time it correctly since as you mentioned, the trains only run every 30 min!!

 

We're also seeing Everton in Liverpool- do you know anything about how to get to their stadium??

I'm no tube expert, a Londoner would know better than I.

Mebbe allow 20 minutes for that tube ride, & aim to make the train before the one you need out of Liverpool Street. Plenty of atmosphere in & around the stadium from about an hour before kick-off. If it's the QPR match, it's a London derby.

 

Sorry, never been to Goodison, Everton's stadium. But I know it's on the opposite side of a park from Anfield, home of Liverpool FC. (schedules avoid both teams playing at home on the same day)

From what I know of soccer supporters in that city, it's no big deal if you cheer on the opposition - just don't say anything complimentary about Liverpool FC. :D

How long do you figure it should take us to get to Liverpool St station!

If starting from the hotel, you'd need to allow ample time to walk up to Westminster Tube, which is perhaps 15 minutes at a tourist's stroll. You may then have to wait for up to 10 minutes or so for a Circle Line train if you're unlucky, and then the actual journey to Liverpool Street will be 15-ish minutes. Then you need to get out and find the correct exit that tips you into the mainline station concourse - which is an art that I have never yet learned.

 

So, frankly, I'd allow 45 or so minutes to get to Liverpool Street station from the hotel, door-to-door.

 

An alternative route would be to walk from the hotel to Pimlico Tube (which is only about the same distance away as Westminster), and then take the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus to change to the Central Line to Liverpool Street. This avoids the hordes of tourists which can clog the pavements (sidewalks) outside the Houses of Parliament and make walking to Westminster Tube frustratingly slow. I do many of these walks in the road, just to be able to keep moving.

 

Or, of course, take the Victoria Line straight to Seven Sisters from Pimlico, and then follow the alternatives set out above.
