considering the AI package

Recommended Posts

Others may disagree (probably will !!!) however I feel the amount paid for AI is a factor in how much one drinks over the period.

If you get it free (debatable) or any of the discounted deals then there is less

psychological pressure to "get your money's worth" than if you've paid almost £400 per couple.

Just my opinion.

This is getting like war and peace lol Ai or not Ai but you have got to look at the facts if I book a cruise and I get all inclusive free or for 49 pounds or for 10 pounds a day I am going to take it wether I am a heavy drinker or not if I have to pay full price eg over 200 pounds for the package I would probably leave it so if I am all inclusive it does not mean I am a drunken fall about person it means I got it for a good price wether I drink 10 soft drinks or 10 vodkas a day. People who get drunk and cause trouble and I have seen a couple but not many will be like that wether they are Ai or payg it usually the type of people they are and let's be honest we all probably know someone who falls into this category so just go on your cruise and drink what you want and if you come across trouble makers just let them get on with it and stay away from then

Lol Rant over

Hello, original poster here.... It is so interesting to hear every ones experiences and opinions.

It seems that many of you have had such a great deal for the drinks package from time to time and I agree if you can get it free (whoopee) or for £69 then it is a great deal. But at the full rate of £199 for one week it is not such a deal.

I have decided not to take the package.

I did read somewhere that sometimes there are daily drinks packages available . Is that true??

Good Point WCM.

Linda, this is such a sensitive subject for you and you deal with it in such an understanding and well balanced way. You are a lovely lady who always tries to see things from every one's point of view.

Jim, no need to apologise. As I said before this forum provides us with the opportunity to put forward our own personal views and opinions of past and present experiences on board, which others may or may not always agree with.

I'm not sure whether it changes how much you actually drink, but having had the cheap deal and also paid full price I entirely agree there is more psychological pressure at full price (when in my head I HAD to drink 8 drinks a day). I probably drank similar amounts both times, I just didn't think about what I was drinking when it was easily going to be achieved.

I have paid for a drinks package on my next cruise, (not Thomson so the bar prices aren't quite so reasonable anyway) but I've bought it early and I'm going to forget about it now and just drink what I like to save the pressure.

Having been on RCI, Gary, I should think that is a very sensible thing to do :rolleyes::D

I think the beer packages might only be on Majesty and Spirit. As Louis run these ships Thomson only really get the profit from selling the cabins, casino etc. Maybe Louis decided to introduce the beer packages and there is nothing Thomson can do about it ;)

Who is Louis?

Louis Lines - a Greek shipping company. Thomson lease the Spirit and Majesty from them :)

Oh I see thank you. Will this be a bad thing? We have booked our first cruise for May next year when it has been upgraded to platinum. We were not told wasn't Thomson when booked a bit disappointed now :(

Thomson don't actually own their ships (except Island Escape).

Spirit and Majesty are on charter from Louis, Dream from Costa and Celebration is from Holland America. I think the point being made is that Louis lease their ships on what is called a bare boat Charter - where they have more control over them and I think they get the profits, whereas on the other two, including the Celebration which you are going on, Thomson have more control. I may be talking a lot of rubbish here, but I'm sure someone will correct me :rolleyes:

Anyway, Celebration was our first cruise and I'm sure you will love it, as we did and get addicted to cruising like the rest of us on here :D:D

Hi cruisecrunch your cruise is with thomsons so don't worry we're the ships come from,

you have booked a thomsons cruise and that's what you will get we have been on all the ships and they are all managed very similar so enjoy your holiday and forget about who owns what it is not something you will notice

Is it not more likely the case that those who are rowdy/drunk (not that I've ever seen this) are not on AI/DP, but buying cheap duty free and drinking it in their cabin, before then topping up in the bar?

The time of behaviour mentioned appears more in line with a binge drinker rather than one who has consumed alcohol over a longer period.

Is RCI expensive, considering getting their drinks package, which is £34 a day. Just because we will be on the ship 5 days sailing

And sun bathing probably enjoying mock cocktails 😍

Not quite 7 drinks before breakfast but I do start watching out for the waiter at about 10.15
