Transportation from San Juan Airport to Carnival cruise terminal

Taxis are right outside of the baggage claim. $25 flat rate to cruise terminal.:cool:

Just realize that there is a queue for the taxi dispatch. You get a slip from the dispatcher with your destination and price, price may vary depending on amount of luggage

In addition to the taxis, Carnival offers a shuttle bus for $15 per person.

There is also a $1 per bag fee for luggage and the driver may or may not help you load it.

If you book the shuttle with Carnival you must do so prior to your cruise. Also be aware that the shuttles are large busses, with luggage storage either underneath or in an auxiliary vehicle, and they will totally fill the busses before they leave the airport. This may mean a long wait.

The cab is the easiest way to get to and from the cruise pier.

All true, except for the last portion. I've been on the shuttle bus four times - twice to the port, and twice back. The first trip to the port was full, but on the other trips the bus was nowhere near full. So, yes, expect them to pack it full, but it's really YMMV.

First time we sailed from San Juan, we had booked the cruise line transfer. We arrived around 11:30, claimed our luggage and then had to stand in a long line waiting for the next bus to arrive. There were far more people in line ahead of us for us to get on the next bus, so we chose to skip the cruise transfer and get a cab. The line for the cab wasn't long at all. We got to the terminal, picked up a couple bottles of wine (Celebrity allows 2), checked in, got our picture made, walked up the gangway and got our champagne, dropped our carry-ons in the cabin and then got some lunch. After lunch (about 90 minutes after we left the airport), we were sitting on our balcony and noticed several of the people we had been standing in line with finally boarding the ship!:eek:

 

In March, we will be cruising out of San Juan for the 3rd time. It will be our second time arriving a day early though, so we have no choice but to take a taxi to our hotel and from our hotel to the ship the next day. Will be great though as we can explore more of beautiful San Juan and we won't have to rush to get on the ship.

Just make sure you know WHICH pier you are sailing from for your cruise to tell your driver (although I'm sure they will know). I think Carnival goes out of Old San Juan, not the Pan American Pier. They are in two entirely different locations and you don't want to get dropped off at the wrong place because they are NOT within walking distance ;):D.
