Halloween on a Holland Ship

We were on the Noordam last Halloween. We actually boarded that day. I took a costume - all black with long black gloves, a cat mask and black boa, etc. A big black spider on my head too. LOL.

There were a few people dressed up but not lots. The dance floor was decorated for Halloween and music was on a Halloween theme. - the "Monster Mash", etc. Lots of fun. The photographers take your photo if you wish.

Sounds like a fun costume. I think we will pack our costumes and wear them even if no one else does. and I will wear my fascinator and feel very fashionable following in Kate's lead.. I feel so educated now LOL

Ok, what is a fascinator? Is it something I should have ?? :-)

too funny.. Part of my "costume" is actually a fascinator and I had no idea. I just thought it was a head band with something attached... :-) I be stylin as the grand kids would say.

This site has hundreds of Fascinators:

http://www.hatagories.com/fascinators/

Some are very beautiful, very expensive & look lovely on tall thin ladies like Kate..

Only time I've ever worn a hat or fascinator, was when I was very young at Brother-in-law's wedding, in the winter to cover the ears & when I'm in a roaring 20's costume for a party...

Occasionally, when I'm in a Dept store I'll try on a little hat but most of them look stupid on me.. LOL

If you have the face & hair for one, go for it.!!

Yes this is one has many segments from Vancouver to Sydney, and you can board in Vancouver or LA, or Sydney or many other ports in Australia as we circumvent Australia.

I generally think of the Australians as mostly fun loving, so it should be fun.

We did this trip last year. Yes, Halloween is a fun time on the ship. During the day folks had on Halloween T-shirts and such. The dining room was decorated and after dinner a party in the crows nest. Lots of costumes.

Yes we also dressed up for the Melbourne Cup. All the bars had specials and the public TV's had the race. They even had a showing in the Main Show room. Any excuse for a party...

Absolutely. I got mine up the islands and wore it on Melbourne Cup day on Volendam. It has had a few trips out since like Fancy Hat Day at my Service Club and Cup Day at the neighbourhood club. A pretty little head confection could be very useful on many and varied occasions. Although I must admit I baulked at wearing it at the wedding of my friend's son. :)

Now I need to know, how do you dress for the Melbourne cup? This sounds like fun, too.

The ladies "dress" think Julia Roberts at the race in Pretty Woman. The men wore lots of dress shirts and bow ties.. Some wore shorts, quite funny. All was in good fun. Ladies don't forget the "hats" facinators. You can find these for sale thru out Australia on the trip.

We also have a public holiday here in Melbourne on Melbourne Cup Day.

We were on the Norwegian Sun a couple of years ago during Halloween. Nothing much was going on, but a few people were in costume. I'd gone to the Dollar Tree before sailing and made up costumes for my husband and me out of the things they sell, like plastic skeleton garlands, shrouds, battery operated light strings to wear as necklaces, etc. I think I spent about $15.00. Some of the crew admired them, so after the dinner hour, I tracked them down and gave them our stuff. They were absolutely thrilled! It turns out the crew was having a big party after hours, and it is really hard for crew to find Halloween items during their limited shore time.

So, if you think about it and want to participate, you might want to donate your costume later, or pick up a few extra vampire teeth or bat ears, whatever, to pass along to your favorite crew.

Great Idea. I did that once with Christmas items for the crew, but hadn't thought about the Halloween stuff. And there is so much stuff out there right now for next to nothing for Halloween. I will buy some 'stuff' for some of the crew.

Your post reminded me of DH's & my first cruise together with dear Friends in 1983.. We were on NCL's m.s. Southward & they had a "Crazy Hat Contest" during a Halloween party..

I dressed up as a Belly dancer while DH only wanted to enter the "Crazy Hat" contest.. I stapled & glued straws to one of his hats & made him a sign which said "Straw Hat" 090883i.jpg.8c2ffa3b3d1ac6ad94eeb108e51a0d2c.jpg

We didn't take costumes with us, but used what we could find on the ship..

for those of you cruising over Halloween, do you intend to wear a costume?

We were cruising last year on Halloween from Rome. I had brought lightweight masks, black feather boa, long black gloves and a fascinator hat that had a big black spider on top. I just wore my black pants and black top. It was fun. Took sparkle flashing earrings. There were a few dressed up but not the majority.

We will be on the eurodam this Halloween and would be interested if others are bringing costumes.

We were on Disney earlier this year and dressed in full pirate regalia on pirate night. It was a family cruise and great fun for the nieces and nephews, but the pirate gear took up an entire suitcase.

We'll be on the Zuiderdam on Halloween and am trying to decide whether or not to pack costumes just in case there's a Halloween party. I'm not willing to devote a full suitcase to costumes this time, but maybe something simple.

We are on the Eurodam too for Halloween. We have our costumes packed and when I called Ship Services the representative said that the crew goes all out. Hope that it is not formal night. We are so excited and can't wait for another HAL cruise!

We are on the same cruise and have not decided yet on the costume idea.

Come join the roll call for our sailing:

I have been on two cruises on Halloween. I did not wear a costume, but there was a costume competition on the Oosterdam in 2011. There are quite a bit of decorations all around the ship, with a good portion in the casino. I did not enjoy much onboard on the Zuiderdam in 2013 because I was on land in Aruba on a party bus/pub run. But, overall it is an interesting night all around.
