geomagot Posted October 19, 2014 #26 Share Posted October 19, 2014 That's not fair but were the prices dearer in the first place? they were cheaper (at the exchange rate at the time) see thread here: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2035690
BaggersCruising Posted October 20, 2014 #27 Share Posted October 20, 2014 they were cheaper (at the exchange rate at the time) see thread here: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2035690 Very interesting, thanks for that link. It seems that the DP is now $360pppw, which today works out at just under £206pppw, so on a par with us. It does make me wonder, as Thomson being a predominantly British cruise line, have they upset that many of their regular UK customers that they now need to look elsewhere to fill their ships? geomagot Posted October 20, 2014 #28 Share Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) in my opinion....I think thomsons were watching intently when louis sent a ship (louis crystal) out to cuba marketed mostly for canadians....it must have sold well? maybe thoms are hoping they can grab a slice of that...thoms have close links with sunwing, i think? they lease each others aircraft during their (respective) quiet seasons anyway...watch this space...we will find out soon enough what the canadian guests will make of the thoms product/thomson dream?;) Edited October 20, 2014 by geomagot

BillandBen Posted October 21, 2014 #30 Share Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Sunwing Canada are selling the Dream Cruises, Google it. The Cruise is marketed a lot better for the Canadian's than the British. When you book you get to choose your cabin number and is a lot cheaper, with free $200pp on board credit. The flight from Canada is shorter so a little cheap that road. " One of Europe's most carbon-efficient cruise lines, Thomson Cruises offers a selection of ships with different characteristics and facilities to cater to your unique cruise vacation needs. Built in 1986 as Holland America's Westerdam, in 2002, the ship became Costa Europa. In 2012, a final upgrade saw the vessel embrace the Thomson Dream cruise ship name. The all inclusive cruise experience features a supervised kids clubs and family programs, a sports deck, the full-service Ocean Spa, flexible, themed à la carte restaurants and lounges, a casino, West End-style entertainment in the plush Broadway Show Lounge, attentive waiter service, as well as all drinks and gratuities included. Stay in the comfort of stylish, air-conditioned staterooms with conveniences like flatscreen televisions and digital safes ($). Indulge in a truly relaxing and entertaining vacation experience aboard the Thomson Dream ". http://www.sunwing.ca/Cruise-Travel/MBJTHF.asp http://www.sunwing.ca/Cruise-Travel/cruises.asp Up you, you British loyal customers. kruzseeka Posted October 21, 2014 #31 Share Posted October 21, 2014 anyway...watch this space...we will find out soon enough what the canadian guests will make of the thoms product/thomson dream?;) Will be very illuminating I would think ....... they may just be bowled over by the undoubted strengths of Thomson but may find the sales pitch as posted by BillandBen, whilst technically accurate, not quite what they may be expecting in the context of the type of ships which are normal in N. America. It will certainly be interesting....................
geomagot Posted October 21, 2014 #32 Share Posted October 21, 2014 imo (and judging by that marketing)....i dont think we will be too short of illuminations (come the new year) kruz;):) ...... and neither will thoms (there will be so much illuminating going on at thoms towers, it'll look like blackpool in a snowstorm);):)

In our experience, the N American passengers aren't slow to make their views known! One Canadian lady was slating Celebrity when we were on saying she hadn't had a good meal on board during that cruise........ well I don't know how far my jaw dropped (was trying to play cool and just listened) but I was gob smacked as we thought the food better than anything we'd had on any cruise - more like Bistro meals in our opinion. I suppose it's all relative............ but that's the point isn't it? Relative to their expectations........
geomagot Posted October 21, 2014 #34 Share Posted October 21, 2014 what i notice from the marketing blub above is this sentence (in particular) ‘The all inclusive cruise experience features a supervised kids clubs and family programs, a sports deck, the full-service Ocean Spa, flexible, themed à la carte restaurants and lounges, a casino, West End-style entertainment in the plush Broadway Show Lounge, attentive waiter service, as well as all drinks  and gratuities included’ Is anyone thinking what I am thinking? Could turn into a bit of a train wreck in january?
BaggersCruising Posted October 21, 2014 #35 Share Posted October 21, 2014 It does all seem like Thomson are going to end up with egg on their face after this one. As already mentioned, passengers from North America expect a little more bang for their buck and I think they're going to be a little disappointed, as it's all measured from expectations to reality. It's also not going to be fair on the Brits who will have paid good money to be on there, if there are going to be a lot of Canadians amongst them who will be complaining. I did read somewhere that in comparison, Thomson are supposed to be on a par with Carnival. I'm not sure who'll be more shocked with that, Carnival, Thomson or the passengers. Again, perhaps if Thomson hadn't have upset so many of their loyal regular UK passengers, they probably wouldn't have had to look elsewhere to fill their ships up! We'll more than likely be sailing away with another line (probably P&O) next year due to a few issues with Thomson this year, not before we go on the Dream in December (as it was already booked). Whilst it's been mentioned about the cabins, that the Canadians can pre-book, it's more likely they've been given a block of cabins in each grade to sell for each itinerary, so they already know which cabin numbers they've been allocated, and their systems are probably set up to handle it, whereas Thomson's aren't. BaggersCruising Posted October 21, 2014 #37 Share Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) notice also the use of the phrase 'all inclusive cruise experience' thomsons havnt used that term in a while?....there's a reason for that? ....drinks package cruise experience doesnt have the same ring to it eh?;) Haha, very true! I'm guessing they haven't used it in a while due to there being so many supplements on the DP these days, including the 95p supplement if you wish for the full can of coke etc. God knows why they don't have their soft drinks on tap like most pubs do, that way they could serve decent sized glasses on their DP and it would be cheaper for them too! Also, are Sunwing still using that term? As they're selling it with both the "Meal plan: 3 meals per day" or "All Inclusive", or as we know it full board or with the DP. I did note they're offering $200 per cabin spending money though. Not quite sure how that works, when everything onboard is priced in $.
