Warnemunde to Berlin?

We are taking a Holland America cruise that docks in Warnemunde. We want to take the train to Berlin. What station in Warnemunde should we go to and what station in Berlin should we get off at to see/do the touristy things? We would like to purchase our train tics ahead of time. Any info appreciated, thanks!

Don't know where Holland docks. Our Celebrity ship docked right across the parking lot from the train station.

 

We picked up a Hertz rent a car ar the pier and drove to Berlin (2.5 hours). There is a tourist office near the Zoo station where you can pick up one of several Hop On Hop Off buses.

Do you know if you docked in Warnemunde or Rostock? and how did you arrange your rental car? We are very interested in renting a car and driving to Berlin - similar to what you did. We are booked on the Constellation next July.

Grogers11, we were on the Rotterdam in July and took the train from Warnemunde to Rostock. There is only one train station in Warnemunde. It is about a 10- to 15-minute walk from the place the ship will dock. There are frequent trains to Rostock. As I recall, the ride took about 15-20 minutes. At the Rostock station, you will catch a train to Berlin. We did not take that trip, but I did research it. It seems most advise getting off the train at the zoo in Berlin where you can catch the hop on, hop off bus or otherwise begin your sightseeing.

 

You will get exact train times from the route planner at the German railway site, http://www.bahn.de/ Click on the "International Guests" link at the top of the page. You may be able to buy tix online directly from Die Bahn.

 

May I suggest you search the keyword "Berlin" in the Baltics forum archives. You will get a bunch of hits with detailed information about taking the train, touring in Berlin, etc.

We were docked in Warnemunde. Fellow traveller (kinghw) booked the car with Hertz to be picked up in Rostock, but we were able to get it at the pier in Warnemunde. Hertz does not list Warnemunde as a site, but you can call and request it. Rostock would have been about a 10 minute cab ride.
