Carnival Sunshine W. Caribbean FunTimes Here

Some including myself had been looking for recent copies of the Sunshine Western Caribbean FunTimes, so I have uploaded copies from our cruise on August 16th, 2014 here. Also below is a mini-review just in case I can't around to doing a full review this weekend.

The FunTimes can be found here:

The ship was great, but had a few glitches which didn't ruin our cruise. Here's a brief rundown of on the ship, and activities:

We had FTTF, and arrived late due to transportation issues, but arrived to board with group 3/4. We were onboard by 12:00, and checked out our rooms which was ready, then off to GS to split OBC. Headed to lunch, then back to the cabin to unpack before muster. FTTF well worth the cost with early boarding, GS line, tendering and early debarkation.

Drain backed up in our bathroom (sewer smell), which our steward didn't seem concerned with, so we called GS. Took them a few hours to fix problem. Deck 8 Starboard side, mid-ship always had a borne substance on the carpet with staff using blowers and vacuums to get it up. Occurred every day, and I assume it was some type of leak.

Steward never acknowledged us by name, even though he spoke at every encounter, and other stewards on the floor knew our name, and were very friendly. Room was clean, and he obliged our every request, but not calling us by name, even when we told him our nicknames was troublesome.

Lido Marketplace was great, and the layout worked well to minimize lines.

Guys and Blue Iguana Cantina for lunch or breakfast (BIC) almost everyday.

Havana Bar for omelets in the morning, along with plenty of seats.

Liquid Lounge great as a disco, but not for live shows. Acoustics were terrible, but again it worked as a nightclub. I didn't go to any port/shopping shows.

VIFP Party had drinks and appetizers free flowing!!!

Casino was tight on slot machines. Even playing max bet, and getting a decent bonus, the money just wasn't paying out. I did get notice from a casino host one night and got a free drink.

MDR menu was the same as previous cruises, but the food was good and hot. We had late Sunrise seating at the rear of the MDR, and the A/C seemed to be not working in this area.

The pools were small, and always crowded, so I resorted to the Serenity area for most of the cruise. It was a great area to get away from the hustle and bustle, but be warned of getting sunburned up here from too many drinks and relaxation.

Serenity was also the leisure spot for Keisha Knight-Pullman (Ruby) from the Cosby Show and Big Tigger from BET's 106 and Park and Rap City Fame. They were great onboard interacting with the other passengers, some who didn't know how to let them enjoy their privacy/vacation.

Ocean Plaza is a good spot for relaxing, listening to music or people watching. I didn't eat at the Taste Bar at night for appetizers/menu samples, but they have a mini-buffet setup at Taste Bar on Sea Days which eliminate the need to go to the Lido if you don't want to do brunch.

The Sunshine has some minor/major glitches that require attention. These did not hamper my cruise, or ruin the cruise experience. As noted we have booked the Sunshine for next summer for another family and friends cruise. The choice was between the Breeze and Sunshine, and I think the Sunshine, although smaller and even with its issues, is a better fit for our family.

Your'e welcome all!!! I know I couldn't find any before my cruise. I usually bring them home, and place them in the photo album where they stay and collect dust. This time I decided to put the scanner to good use since its almost never used. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

I was in 8121, but the problems with the bathroom drains, toilets, or sewage vacuum system seemed to be an issue all over the ship. I had family in a suite on 7 right under me, and their toilet wouldn't flush when they pushed the button, and then would flush on its own minutes later, or by itself. On the other end of the ship, I had family in two cabins side by side who's toilets didn't flush one night right before dinner. I think the problem or issues may have been caused by the renovation/conversion from the Destiny, unless the Destiny had the same problems. As stated earlier, the problems were noticeable, but that big a deal to us to not enjoy our cruise, or not book her again.

What excursions did you do? thinking of the Sunshine for next July we are 2 families but with older kids!

The only excursion we did was a city tour with Tequila Factory stop/tour in Cozumel. Not a bad tour, with a beach stop and shopping for $20. In Roatan we went to the beach, are and drank at Fat Tuesdays. We lucked out by paying $5.00 (tip) for a local/tour guide getting our loungers near the beach in place of paying the $23 for clamshells or chairs closer to the lift/beach entry area. Belize we got off the ship, picked up some souvenirs, grabbed some BBQ at the stand/outside kitchen of Tender Bar and Grill, and spent several hours sitting in their listening to music, dancing and watching the water and ships. We did the same in Costa Maya. This is our second time to these ports. We did the same itinerary on the Glory several years ago.
