I'm trying to get rates & possibly book the lodge, but they're telling me that they don't open up booking for 2015 until October. Does that sound right? Anybody able to book earlier?

Yes that sounds right. They are only open for the summer months. Also, they need to "allocate" all of the princess tours rooms prior to opening them up to the general public.

If you're open to other lodging choices, there are other options for a stay nr Denali. If you have a car, obviously more choices are available, but even by train or bus, there are other choices besides Princess:

We are open to other accommodations, but the lodge has super saver rates that would allow us to stay within budget and actually be able to go - provided they don't go up 30% over 2014 super saver rates.

 

But I do appreciate your knowledge. Do you know if there's a map that shows lodges, B&Bs and inns so we can look at proximities as well? That would be very helpful - especially to my map loving DH.

I don't know what the super saver rate is.....

 

If you're open to sharing restroom/shower facilities there are private rooms and private cabins available at the Denali Hostel from $75+. They also run a shuttle to the park a few times a day.

Or look at the Denali Salmon Bake Cabins they have a free shuttle to the park.

If you want a map of the area showing accomodations, you might want to look at an Alaska travel book. I only have a Milepost and it shows lodging around Glitter Gulch, not surrounding areas.
