The Upgrade Fairy

I will try to be brief but succinct, which is hard for me but here goes.

Two years ago my DS, my DH and I put a deposit down on an Alaskan cruise. Life got in the way while we were making other plans and we had to cancel the cruise. Of course we didn't get our $$$ back, instead it was held by CCL to use on another cruise, with a two-year time limit.

My DS called me two months ago with the news "use it or lose it"! Since finances have changed she and I decided to use it as frugally as we could (translates as interior cabin on a Caribbean itinerary). DH says "I've been to the Caribbean seven times and the last thing I want is an interior cabin, so y'all go and have a good time. I'll stay home with the dog!" My DS and I did a Sisters Only cruise 4 years ago and had a great time so this one would be fun!

DS contacts CCL and we had to lose one of the deposits, couldn't use three deposits with only two passengers. "Ah, well."

The two deposits would more than cover the $$ for an interior cabin and we couldn't use the remainder as OBC so the agent booked us into cabin 2473 on CCL Conquest. It's a very large OV and we were more than happy.

Two weeks ago the Upgrade Fairy called. I have never been contacted by the UF and I don't know why now. UF talked about reg. balcony rooms but we shot that offer down immediately. Would rather have a larger room with windows than a smaller room with a 33 sq. ft. balcony.

Her next two offers were tempting: Ocean Suite for $525 total or Grand Suite for $875 total. Tempting but "No thank you, UF" :roll eyes: We could use that $$ on some bang-up great drinks, excursions and spa treatments.

UF stayed in the background until today and then she emerged with a new offer: $200 total more for a balcony, $325 total more for an Ocean Suite and $525 total more for the Grand Suite!!!

Looks like we will be living the "Suite Life" on our cruise. :) We are beyond excited. Have looked at every Grand Suite on every Conquest class CCL has in the water on ********************.

It's impossible to curb my enthusiasm! Suitcases are out, clothes and lists are scattered everywhere and my DS and I are burning up the minutes on our cell phones. I go to the Carnival website and see the little red banner "12 Days to Cruising":D

Please feel free to share every single, teeny, tiny experience you've had in a GS. I won't sleep between now and then and will probably be splitting my time between here and any other website that has pix of a GS. We've never had anything close before and probably won't have one again so we want to savor every moment.

No experience in grand either but also got the call the other day from carnival with a deal. We booked a 16 day to Hawaii from Vancouver and got a great deal on an inside room. We booked in January and when it is so far away then an inside room anywhere seemed fine. The guy offered us any balcony for an extra $50 per day for total of $800. I asked my husband, who took the call, if he really said ANY balcony. I quickly looked up rooms on our almost sold out cruise and found a premium balcony on deck eight with 230 sq ft or an aft facing extended balcony on deck six. I called carnival and sure enough he said I could have either room. We took the aft facing room to try out and hope we love it. Now I am super excited to head to Hawaii in this new room.

Carnival said they called us because they ran out of inside rooms to sell and we were past carnival customers. Enjoy your suite. Bet you will love it!

I have stayed in a suite on the Conquest once before at Carnivals expense due to a booking error. I loved it. Even though I do not spend much time in the room. Loved to separate bathroom and changing room, the large balcony, the sitting area so you don't have to sit on the bed. Some people will tell that you will be spoiled for life and never want to do an inside again. I am here to disagree. Even the suite was great I am willing to any room as long as I am on the ship.

in 2013 I got a FREE cruise offer from the Casino Players Club and was able to book the GRAND SUITE on the Carnival Victory. It was Very Nice. I took two friends along. Technically. its the width two balcony staterooms together without the middle wall. Extended Balcony

The Bath was very nice and one of the big ++ .

TILED, JETTED tub, POWERFUL SHOWER pressure and separate vanity changing area outside the actual bath with its own separate sink.

The only bad thing was that the PULL OUT SOFA BED was just terrible. It was one of those pull out beds with the wood pieces across and the thin mattress. Nothing like the actual beds. I was very surprised that was the sofa bed option in the SUITE. Would have been better with a roll-a-way bed or simply sleeping on the closed on sofa or even the floor.

SEE my review regarding that trip in my signature below.

5/13/13 CARNIVAL VICTORY FREE CRUISE

ill see if i can figure out how to add pics

Have Fun! Besides the Sofa Bed it was a Great room. I would also take whatever room I could get. For me a Regular Balcony is good enough a luxury for me.

Carnival called yesterday. They had a grand suite for $700. No thanks. We started out in an obstructed balcony cabin, went to guarantee and landed in an 8k midship plus OBC. I'd rather take the money and book another cruise on the ship.

My phone said Carnival for the offer. When customer service calls it's the 305 number.

OP, have fun on your cruise.
