Upgrades

How do they assign upgrades. I just read that rccl upgraded a bunch of people and I think they are emerald. My preferences are set, and no upgrade... I guess I'm confused on how they decide. Is it a lottery...? We are D+ and no upgrade but lots of cabins available. So much for loyalty.....:confused:

Upgrades are done in two phases. The first phase is the Revenue Department who upgrades people out of staterooms they think will be easier to sell. If there are any staterooms left after the Revenue Department does their thing, then the second phase is the C&A Department, upgrading C&A members from highest to lowest number of points.

Also, what is the length of time between the upgrade and the actual cruise?

 

One more question... I have read that you can contact royal if the price goes down, after final payment, for an upgrade. Is this true ? Or am I being misled?

You can contact them for an upgrade but if there is a price difference then you have to pay it. Sometimes the difference is minimal or may even be less than what you originally paid so it can be worth it.
