CAS Perk Changes

They have the right, CAS and NCL to change their perks. However, I simply believe that the change should come about after their/our 'year' is up and not mid cycle. Not even sure who we'd contact in regard to this change and asking if we can at keep what we have earned until March 31, 2015.

Let's not forget the elimination of Slot Play Coupons and the Free Promotional Machine and Table Credits. Every casino that I visit offers some sort of free play.

Just got back from a 9 day completely compt trip to Vegas. Free suite, free meals, free drinks, free smokes and a free scooter (my back was acting up) limo back and forth when needed and I didn't have to lose $10,000 to get all of that. I love Vegas we go twice a year I might have to up it in the future. I also live 2 hours from AC and visit there often was just there is this past weekend again free suite, meals and drinks.

I was surprised when I went to Norwegian Cruise Line on FB that nothing was mentioned about this. So......I mentioned it.

None of us would have known had it not been for Cruise Critic since NCL/CAS didn't think it was of enough importance to inform us. Imagine our surprise, disappointment, and anger on our next cruise.

I am 933 points from making VIP. Now why bother? I don't drink soda and was looking forward to the spa and Cagneys.

I agree with the posters who said to go to Vegas. I haven't been there in years but maybe it's time to stop cruising and go back to Vegas again.

Very disappointed!!

The spa and Cagneys was also a Golden perk but they've lowered the days for the spa for both Golden and VIP and taken away Cagneys for both Golden and VIP. Also taken away was VIP embarkation. All VIP Treatment was taken away.

I'm with you, very disappointed also. Was about to make VIP on my cruise leaving Sunday, but why bother. Count me among those considering Vegas or other land-based casino vacations.

I think we may take the money we would have spent in the casino and use it for a suite. Probably save us money. Very disappointed. Every time I call CAS I get different response. I really think we should have been told when we booked or at least before we sail

Spoke to my PCC in CAS today. He is getting complaints about this. He said that most of his CAS customers are suite guests anyway. My guess is they make changes once they see how many people are upset about this.

Also on a side note don't people who are spending thousands and thousands of dollars in a casino probably in suites anyway? If you have $10,000 to blow in a casino for a 7 day cruise why not just get a suite for $4,000 or $5,000 and spend $5,000 in the casino. Are people really that upset about not eating in cagneys and a $5 pack of cigarettes? And dumb as it was for them to cut these perks out (I get it) why get so upset about not being able to eat in cagneys.

Also if you visit the casino board look how many people complain about other cruise lines perks. They don't even have a set system for drink cards some get them some don't. They can't figure it out.

Lol no not jesting. Just trying to wrap my head around it. Don't get me wrong I totally understand it as wrong for them to do this especially when cruises have already been booked. I felt the same way about the smoking. All I'm saying is it's really about a few meals and a pack of smokes. Go look at the casino board and see the complaints about other cruise line casino perks they are way worse than NCL.

I am not a big gambler (as in; no one would ever give me a freebie based on my casino spending) but I do sympathize with those who have been promised something; only to have it taken back with no warning.

It sounds like someone in the NCL Finance Department has done some hard number crunching and what you see as benefitting NCL must not be the case.

It's all about the bottom line folks...plain & simple.

If it's time to head for Vegas..take me with you. I love that place:)

My PCC said it was food and beverage that did this change. I do hope it goes back to what it was. I book through CAS but not VIP or anything close. I'm happy with my comped cruises and drink cards. But I do agree with you that they should NEVER have done it mid stream they needed to give notice I think this is why people are very upset. I thought about it after my previous post. It's probably more upsetting on how it was done (timing) and not what is being taken away. Sorry if people don't think I understand because I do.

The timing of them taking the perks away is pretty irksome. Some warning would have been nice.

The perks they have taken away may not sound like much, but they were pretty awesome. The smokes a day were nice to have. The 2 day spa pass was enjoyable and relaxing and saved me the $200. The priorty embarkation was a nice touch, but we still have the dedicated CAS line. The one that is hard to take is the Cagneys. This is what made me happy sailing in a comfortable balcony room instead of a suite. The only thing I didn't have was a butler, but I did have the extra funds to spend in the casino.

I usually book through a junket guy as a guest of the casino. Now I will defintiely cruise less because why give them all the play if I get less benefit for it?

Now, like others have said, we will look more towards Vegas and other land based vacations instead of just crusing. Get treated like royalty out in Vegas, Laughlin and New Olreans, and not a high-roller by any means, so I will enjoy the perks while I can get them.

For what it's worth I sent an email to CAS expressing my extreme dissatisfaction with the changes and letting them know I will be looking into alternate vacations. I have cruised 5-6 times with NCL each of the last 2 years.

I figure they don't know we are unhappy unless we tell them.

You apparently do not understand gamblers.

It is the principle. If they were to apply financial LOGIC, they would not gamble at all. But, they, well.... like to donate to the casino. And are willing to gamble (but not spend) $1000 a night get a $80 hotel room free,or $2000 to get a suite.

+1

With a caveat. Willing to gamble $1000 a night. The $80 free hotel room is a bonus.

But I like the bonuses, because it saves me from having to ALSO find $80 for a hotel room on top of my gambling money! :)

I suspect that these VIP offers were extended to the casino by the ship... and have been withdrawn due to how many people were able to take advantage of them / confusion between differing benefits depending on ship.

I find it very disappointing too, but am hopeful they'll find some other creative means to reward play and loyalty.

I suspect you are correct in this but more importantly one wonders if the gaming is not making as much as before and as yields return to normal after the crunch that revenue passengers are worth more. Just a thought!!:D

Just a thought. Could one of the reasons they are removing the Cagney's perk is because all the newer ships do not offer breakfast and lunch in Cagney's? They offer breakfast and lunch in the haven restaurant for suite guests only. That option hasn't been given to CAS to my knowledge. Also, might they have done away with the cigarettes because they are now leaning more towards the no smoking policies? Again, these are just my thoughts.

Not totally unreasonable.

BUT - just like the casinos elsewhere, they can adjust what they give out. Neither of those things should cost them much compared to what they "rake in" from players at those levels.

Than perhaps CAS should make up for taking away those benefits by substituting another benefit. Maybe more spa days rather than less?

Just booked today two free Breakaway cruises for me and my girlfriend in Haven for October Bahamas and in a mini-suite for a 12-day cruise in January. So I'm not too upset about this change. However, I'll get more info once on the ship and might gamble a little less depending on what I'm told.

They could also open one of the MDR for CAS during breakfast & lunch. Making it a perk of CAS. That would also be an option. Also, not all the ships have a spa. I think maybe they will base what is given depending on the ship we are cruising on. I think we all have to wait it out and see what happens.

Just like the newer ships have the Haven restaurant instead of Cagney's, the newer ships also have Spa category rooms, therefore they probably don't have the space in the Spa to offer it to CAS players. While the Dawn and Jewel class ships still operate the old way they are probably just standardizing their perks fleet wide so it is less confusing for players and employees. I would bet they will find some new perks for players, maybe not as nice as those lost but at least something.
