hajekfam Posted April 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2004 What airline are you talking about? Are you checking the garment bag? Could it be for first class and one of those garment covers that only hold like a change of clothes and is hung in first class? We have brought a Travel Pro garment bag that when opened is 7" deep. It holds all my dresses and husbands suits, sports jackets and slacks, tuxes, and dress shirts for a two week cruise. We have had no problem checking that piece. scarletine Posted April 13, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2004 We also have a big Samsonite garment bag that can hold about ten hangers of just the hubby's stuff. We fill that thing full to bursting on just about every trip we ever take, and have never had a problem checking it. Of course, when it's all folded and zipped up it resembles a suitcase more than a garment bag, but I still don't think that would make much of a difference. vanclan Posted April 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I read the part about 3 hangers in a garment bag since I am flying on Northwest also. I THOUGHT it meant that you could have a garment bag as a carry on "special" item if you didn't have more than 3 hangers....but maybe I was mistaken. (I would think that would mean those light flimsy garment bags not a "luggage piece" type. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case on Northwest? doule Posted April 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2004 does anyone have any suggestions on getting a long, pouffy wedding dress to the ship without looking like she slept in it? would you trust the laundry personnel to "iron" it? PiperMcB Posted April 20, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I made my daughter's wedding dress and it was very full with layers of silk chiffon, lace, beading and a court train. I had to get it from Houston to Oakland. I bought a garment bag from the bridal shop where I bought the hoop skirt and took it as a carry-on on the airplane. The attendants were great about carefully storing it for me. It didn't need pressing at all. Piper Christmas Cruise on the Elation! Vera Posted April 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We just came back from the cruise and used Northwestern on our way to Miami (with a transfer). We took soft sided garment bag, which holds DH and DS suits, shirts, pants and some of my clothes! all together we had 5 carry-ons for 4 people (including this garment bag), and me and dd also had smaller hand bags. We didn't have any luggage to check-in at all - love travel light, even for a cruise!
