I am a 40 something who is just not able to wear a thong, however...I have some great fitting, really comfie white linen capris that are unlined. They are so see through! Even with flesh colored undies, I am just not sure whether I should keep them or not... is it okay to KNOW you have undies on? You can see the pockets through the pants - would white undies be better? Help! I love them, but don't want to feel embarrased..

Definitely not white undies w/white pants. You will need to wear nude colored. Am just me personally...I would buy a nude thong strictly for those pants, and tough it out while wearing them. It's only for a short while. but then again I am a thong only wearer, so I can't stand seeing panty lines. There are comfortable thongs from victoria's secret...cotton body by victoria. I love 'em.

Not that you want/need [I]another[/I] layer in the tropics, but there are pants slips (same material as a slip just cut like pants) that you can buy for just such an occassion. My very modest ever proper mother bought mine for me so I can't even tell you where to look.

I really like the weight, comfort of them unlined as I plan to use them for daytime - they are very cool and soft and casual and I purposely did not want the lining. I think I am going to have to give in and try a thong but I don't think I will like the look - to me, naked butt is worse than panty lines! And under white there will be no doubt! Oh, well - I guess I was hoping someone would say that white linen is the ONLY time you can have panty lines! lol I just really like the way they feel...

I also have a pair of white capri, I don't think they are as thin as yours sound, but what I'm going to do is look for a pair of the capri length panty hose. I think they will not show lines and also add some "much needed" support.

If you get a nude colored thong as close to your skin tone as possible it really shouldn't be obvious that you have a "naked butt" as it shouldn't show at all. If you are worried about how they feel, honestly after about 15 minutes of wearing it I don't think you'll notice. My mom won't try them because she thinks it'll feel like a constant wedgie, but it really isn't like that unless you are dwelling on the thought of (oh no! [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img]) wearing a thong! [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

I also agree with the others who talked about the capri length tights. If you need the support that regular panties give (as thongs give little to none depending on the style) the tights may be the way to go...

Victoria's Secret has a no panty line collection. They are sort of new. They look very comfy. To me, if you are wearing white on vacation...it's ok to wear whatever you want underneath...thong, bathing suit bottom or nude color undies. Especially if you are wearing a tank top and open button down shirt that kind of hides the backside a bit. Do what you like! and enjoy your cruise!!!

White undies under white pants is probably one of the biggest fashion no-no's around! There's just nothing uglier! Same with think white blouses and white bra's.

You really should get a flesh colored thong. I don't think I look great in my thongs either, but I wear them to avoid VPL.
But if you really, really won't, then get flesh colored panties. If your pants hit at your normal waist (as opposed to low rise) then get a pair of the high cut nude panties. At least they'll be a smooth line up to the waistband of the pants. Bikini's will look just awful. Also, look for ones that don't have too much bunchy elastic around the leg holes so they'll be smoother. Lastly buy a size larger than you normally wear so that they're not making any indents in your flesh.

I just turned 47 on Monday, and I would wear a thong with slacks like the pair you described. You don't necessarily have to go to Victoria's Secret to buy your thong. Other anchor stores sell them where there may be a bit more "coverage" for you.

If you are not able to really wear a thong, my suggestion is with the other girls - wear a nude color pair of panties.

I agree with the above posters: get nude panties or thong. However, on some people that have cellulite, you can actually see their butt "dimples" through the white linen. To me, this is a BIG fashion no-no. I'm not saying you have butt dimples though...LOL! THAT is exactly what I am worried about! I even see butt dimples on some of my daughter's size 4 friends! Unless you are really muscled there, I think it is hard to avoid. I am fairly average sized, but I feel like I would have to wear a long shirt to cover my backside and that would ruin the look. I am going to go look for some of those new "no-line" panties and if that does not work, back to JJill they go! I just don't want to feel self-concious. I think pant liners would take away from the breezy, beachy look of them.

Appreciate all your suggestions - I really wish I could handle a thong, but I can always tell when someone is wearing one, and while men may think it is sexy, I find it kind of embarrassing! Yeah, I know, I am old!

Mary, if I see any butt dimples on myself, I won't wear the item. I understand completely how you feel. I am not a thong person either. Yes, I've tried them, but can't get past the wedgie feeling. Spanx Power Panties. They hold your gut and butt in for you, don't show panty lines and come in lots of colors, including nude and brown. They're not like regular panties, it's like they cut off the legs of control top pantyhose, so it goes down your leg a bit. They're very comfortable; I wore them on my wedding day and whenever I want to look thinner.

I don't think we are worried about panty lines so much as we are talking about sheer white linen fabric that you can see your underwear through the fabric. In that case nude (as close to skin color as possible) panties of any kind (thong or whatever) are a necessity.

OMG! I was at Marshall's on Westheimer in Houston today and there was a foreign (was speaking French, I believe) woman shopping, she had on a shirt that ended at her waist, AND white linen capris. She had on white bikini underwear and you could see them as if she were wearing a see through nightgown! [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img] It wouldn't have mattered a bit if she had the "no pantyline type"! I could see her drawers as plain as day! It made me think of this thread!

WEll, the no line panties are not no-line enought for white linen! I am going to check out that spanx site, because I would really like to keep these capris - they look great in front!

Natalunia, I am less worried about panty lines than I am about seeing the underwear - more the color show thru. I don't want to be that lady at Marshall's! Everybody talking about me!
