N00B Posted September 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2014 I am trying to book an upcoming cruise. We are trying to decide between doing B2B on the Ecstasy to make 7 days or doing a 7 day on the Splendor. I'm having trouble deciding. The Ecstasy works a little better with our dates and if we did it we would get B2B in an Oceanview. The Splendor we would go with a Balcony (price differential is less) so it would cost us a bit more and it not quite as ideal for our dates - but still totally doable. I'm just not sure if the extra amenities available on the Splendor are worth it. I think both are older ships but the Ecstasy is on of their oldest. We will be travelling with a 9 month old, if that makes any difference. Which would you choose and why? Or which should I choose and why?
yamsi12 Posted September 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Easy call. Balcony on Splendor. She is only 6 years old btw.
Rare Tapi Posted September 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2014 We are planning on taking the Ecstasy next summer solely because it's cheap. But if we were planning a 7 night cruise with a bigger budget, there's no way I would choose it over the Splendor. The experience will be vastly different. falkcor Posted September 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2014 this would be an easy decision for me. splendor by a large margin. ecstasy is the second oldest in the fleet, at 23 yrs old, and one of current 'smallest' ships at 70k grt - without a lot of the 'bells and whistles' and newer amenities the splendor offers. splendor is the fourth newest in the fleet, at 6 yrs old, and the largest except for the dream class ships at 113k grt. it has a much higher proportion of balconies, and offers quite a bit more in terms of amenities than the fantasy class ships. its main lido / pool area also has a covered dome for inclement weather, etc. and the big screen. also related specifically to your situation - i would go for the balcony without a doubt, traveling with a young child. i'd always take a balcony over the ov, but in your case, it would also give you or your spouse (or both) the chance to sit on the balcony while others are napping, etc. inside the cabin. i'd think that extra bit of room (and kinda a separate room, outside!) would be valuable. boaterette Posted September 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Having been on both I would choose the splendor. More area to roam. Better food choices and a balcony would be great with your young one. You might want to check out the family board for a lot of great suggestions having to due with traveling with a baby. champagne123 Posted September 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2014 I agree with all of the above posters....the Splendor. Just wanted to add one more thing though, that was not mentioned. On the Ecstasy, (especially with a young child)....am I correct in understanding that this is a 3/4 day back to back? If so.....these are notorious for being "party" cruises.

Vitamin_Sea Posted September 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) we have sailed Splendor twice within 7 months and love the ship. Ships you pick are 23yo and 6yo So, Splendor is my pick Edited September 17, 2014 by limoguy1
092306 Posted September 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Haven't sailed The Ecstasy, but loved the Splendor and would definitely choose that one for a week over the 2 shorter cruises on an older, smaller ship. Splendor also has the Seuss at sea for your little one, not sure if Ecstasy does.
Crusin Karen Posted September 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Have never been on E, but sailed Splendor 3x and she is a great ship. Agree with the others. Also, if you were to book an L shaped balcony cabin, they could probably set up a crib in the "L part" which would give you even MORE room. BON VOYAGE!
