Surprising someone with the gift of a cruise (sorry off topic)

Anyone have any good stories of how you surprised someone by giving them a gift of a cruise? I came up with a cute way and thought I would share to give some people some ideas.

I'm 21 and my bf is 22, we just celebrated our 2 year anniversary and for our anniversary I gave him the great gift of a cruise for the 2 of us. He took me to dinner and from there I blindfolded him and drove his car to a nearby beach (we live on lake Erie) there is one spot that has a waterfall. I parked the car and took his had and guided him down a flight of stairs that ends on a small concreate platform. I layed a blanket down, took a tap light (candles would have blown out) 2 champaign glasses and my walkman that had mini speakers playing Ella Fitzgerald's "Isn't it romantic" I took the blindfold off and presented him is gift. The way I "wrapped" the card that said we were going on a cruise was, I put it in a blue bottle with a cork (got it at a craft store) and placed it inside a childs sand buket filled with sand. On top of the sand was an assortment of seashells that were also placed thruout the sand. also a wooden palm tree and sail boat that I hand painted. He had to dig thru the sand and find the seashells. on each seashell I had pained a letter and color coded them (Blue letters, orange letters and so on) The blue letters spelled out ARUBA the orange BARBADOS so he then had to unscramble them. at the very bottom of the bucket I had a seashell that had the map of the itenerary that I cut from the carnival book and glued on the shell. I helped him with the unscrabling and also sifting thru the sand. I figured this was a very original way to present a gift of a cruise other than in an envalope.

also, with the hand painted palm tree, I painted one for myself as well, I'm going to go to Michaels and get a wooden craft picture from, glue the palm tree to it and put a picture of us from the cruise.

Sorry this was such a long post, I would love to hear other stories

I am surprising DH with a cruise also, as we use to cruise 1-2x a year before we had our babies. So for a 10 yr. Anniversary i booked a cruise. He knows we're going somewhere, just not exactly where. So we'll hit I-95 South and then we'll hit port and then he'll be surprised. He's said he's got a really great gift for me for Anniv., so I can't wait to see what!!!! LOL

Have fun on your cruise!

Oh how lovely!!!

We gave my mother in law a gift last year of a cruise but we didnt "wrap it" as such, just sprang the good news to her on her birthday! HOwever!! In January nexy year we are booked on two back to back cruises, I am thinking of giving my daughter and my mother in law a gift of flying out to join us on the 2nc cruise. If I do, it will be their xmas gift. I intend to box flip flops, sun tan lotion etc, and give them a pile of sunshine goodies on xmas morning with two weeks notice to get packing!!!

My daughter will love it but MIL will have a fit as she wont have time to diet but she will love it anyway!

I was going to post the same question. I'm surprising my DH for his 40th birthday in June. He has no idea that we are going anywhere. His birthday is 2 weeks before we cruise and I'm not sure how to surprise him with it. So if anyone has any suggestions all are welcome.

Thanks!!

We wanted to surprise my sister-in-law with a cruise. So I made a "certificate" which entitled "her name" to a cruise on "name of ship" on "date" and had a photo of the ship on the "certificate. Signed our names.

For my 21st birthday last December my mom surprised me with a cruise. However, with my school and work schedules she had to tell me in advance so I could get the time off from work and take finals early. One weekend during the summer I went back to my hometown to visit. Friday night we went out to dinner (my grandparents, mom, and myself). After dinner we went to my grandparents house. When I walked in the door I noticed balloons, gifts, and a birthday cake. My mom said that we were celebrating my birthday early (6 months to the day early). Like the blonde that I am I had to inform my family that it was not my birthday icon_smile.gif I recieved flip flops from my grandparents and a videotape from my mom. We put in the videotape and it didn't take long to figure out that the tape was a promo tape of the Carnival Victory. Again, it took me a few minutes to catch on. If it wasn't enough of a surprise to find out we were going on a cruise, mom continued to tell me that we had a balcony room (which I really wanted).

I suprised my husband with a cruise for his birthday last year. First, I contacted his employer and arranged his time off work. For the gift, I got a huge gift bag & it was filled with several smaller gifts which were clues. The card included a silly poem I wrote with each couple lines referring to one of the clues. As he read he opened the clues. The first was travel size toiletries, then one of those plastic wing pins from Delta, then an underwater camera, mini alcohol bottles (Tequila & Kahlua since we'd visit Mexico), a map of Cancun, snorkel mask, wallet with some cash for the casino, some Royal Caribbean chocolates I had saved from our last cruise, etc. After he finished opening all the clue gifts, he had figured out it was a cruise & thought I had booked a family cruise we had been considering. Then he got a box marked The Actual Gift" which contained the cruise tickets for our cruise which was departing in a week and a half. I had planned to give it to him just a couple of days before our trip, but I had to go out of town due to a death in my family so I had to give it to him a little earlier since I was out of town until the day before we left & there were some things that needed to be done. He was still quite surprised & happy, but says he would have preferred a month's notice.

VaCruzers:

My husbands birthday is 2 weeks before we sail. The week that we are leaving is our anniversary week so we always take that week off. I wasn't sure if I should give it to him on his birthday or spring it on him at the last minute. He thinks we are staying home this year for our anniversary. I like your ideas. Gives me something to think about. Thanks.
