Kids on Island Princess?

We are planning an Alaska Cruise for next summer with our kids who will be 13 and 11. The scheduling and itinerary work best on Princess, a 7 day northbound cruise from Vancouver and 4 days on land to Denali and Fairbanks. Our son, the 13 year old, saw that Royal Caribbean had a rock climbing wall, ice skating etc. and is disappointed that the Princess ships don't have the same kinds of activities. Has anyone travelled on this or a similar ship with kids of this age? They're not likely to join in big group activities with other kids (although we might be surprised) but we want to make sure they'll find enough to do. Any thoughts on this question or on this cruise in general would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I saw your question and said, hey, that looks familiar from VT! Hope you get some good information...

I will add, we went in May, before schools were out, and there were only a few kids on our cruise, mostly preschool age. Keep in mind that on port days, your kids will be busy on excursions - seeing whales, walking on glaciers, dogsledding, whatever you choose, so the ship won't matter. On sea days, esp. on Princess where you'll have two in a row at the end with Glacier Bay and College Fjords - check out the mini golf - small but at least it's something.
