Parking in New Orleans for 9 days

I did a fast search of the forum and didn't find any previous references. We're planning to drive to New Orleans for our Dec 12, 2014 round trip cruise. We'll be put up at the Hilton Riverside. Does anyone have any good hints for reasonably (meaning cheap ;)) parking from the 12th to the 20th? I'm willing to drop off the wife and luggage and park a ways off, preferably along a street car line.

Last time I caught one of the DAM QUEENS, that's DELTA, AMERICAN and MISSISSIPPI, in New Orleans parking was free on the Robin Street Wharf, but those days are long gone. There is overnight paid parking next to the Hilton where the AQ lands, but I gather that it is rather expensive. Another place where you might find the answer is the New Orleans section of Cruise Critics.

I have tentatively found a parking agency that specializes in cruise parking. They have several locations in the $8 - $10 range per day, and have shuttles to the port. I say tentative, because I have yet to determine if they service the wharf at the Hilton Riverside where AQ docks, and whether they will drop me at the Hilton the day before the cruise. When I have a definite answer, I'll post the contact info.

I checked one-way car rental prices, and they are more than round trip airfare.

So your going to stay in the center of it all at Hilton New Orleans Riverside and enjoy a prime downtown location at the base of Canal and Poydras Streets.

Finding a New Orleans parking space is difficult, especially in the Canal and Poydras areas that's why there is ParkWhiz so you can find a spot in the Crescent City! ParkWhiz works night and day to help you find convenient New Orleans parking spaces, so you won’t have to search all of Crescent City. The riverfront Hilton hotel is situated next to Harrah's Casino, steps from famous New Orleans Streetcar lines, a few blocks away from the French Quarter, and on the banks of the Mississippi River. This downtown New Orleans hotel is also adjacent to the Cruise Terminal and further more you can shop at my favorite new spot Riverwalk Shops. I suggest the tower Garage for parking at Please call (504) 561-8115 for information about current parking rates at 400 Poydras Tower Garage. They gave great service last trip! They have a call Center @ Call Center (877) 717-0004.

I hope since you directly asked about parking this answer is okay for providing one of many solutions and I am not affiliated but have used the facility. :D

Thank you for the very informative reply! By coincidence, the organization I found with cruise parking uses the Tower; their cheapest rate is on the rooftop. That's OK, our poor little car wouldn't know what to do with inside parking. ;)

Hi Don & Betsy Horner,

Last time that I went on a cruise from New Orleans I parked my car at Machu Picchu Tours' cruise ship parking lot. It was great, I think they charge only $14 a day (less then the lots right near the cruise ships), but they are much more efficient then those lots. The problem with the lots near the cruise lines is that they wait for their buses to get full before driving you back. I got very quick service and safe parking by using Machu Picchu Tours. Ask to speak with Angel to make a reservation 504-561-9050. Their website is machupicchutours.com/

Have an enjoyable cruise!
