Los Cabos, La Paz & Loreto, Mexico Dive Operators?

I can't give you any recommendations FOR, but I can tell you we were in Cabo last spring, and went with Cabo Adventures. They are a large water sports company (SCUBA, snorkeling, whale watching, kayaking, paddle boards, etc). Not an enjoyable experience at all. We did not have our own gear with us on that trip, the rental gear was sub-standard (my buddy's BC power inflator malfunctioned, and they seemed to think this was both normal and well within the bounds of acceptable and safe practice). They use one large dive boat with multiple groups of divers. In short, avoid them.

That being said, Cabo was more "interesting" diving than great diving. We dove at Los Arcos/Lands End, and it was fun to feel the dramatic currents, and the most defined and dramatic thermoclines I've ever seen. You could actually see the point in the water where the temperature changed, and - since the difference was so great - you could stick your arm through, and your hand would be dramatically cooler than your body. At every moment of the dive you're either working against a strong current, or moving quickly with it. I believe this is common at this point since it's where the Pacific and Sea of Cortez meet, rather than due to a particular day's weather.

Harris,

Thanks for the info on the current conditions and also the non-recommendation for Cabo Adventures. They weren't even on my list of places to consider but now if everything else falls through I'll know to stay away from them also.

You're more than welcome.

I suspect there are lots of options for operators in Cabo. The Los Arcos, Land's End, Lover's Beach areas are the center for a bunch of aquatic tourist activity. Besides diving, there are countless snorklers, glass bottom boats, Kayakers, small boats taking people to the otherwise inaccessible beaches, and I think even one of those submarine tours. If I was booking something there independently, I'd see if the operator could do the other dive at a site somewhat more off the beaten path (if you can have a beaten path underwater).
