say visible only one mile or less

any one got info what does it mean for trip from Fair to Dawson city:confused:

Not sure how thick but they are reporting smoke in Dawson today as well.

Fairbanks to Dawson is just plain ugly, I'm very sorry to say. The two fires at Eagle in particular are largely out of control.

Yukon, we will be cruising northbound Van-Anc 8/27 ending up in Talkeetna on 9-3. We have scheduled Talkeetna Air Taxi for 9-4 to Denali on the Summit Flight . Do you think we will be able to see anything? Will it be worht it? How bad are the fires? Is our trip north of Anchorage going to be....I don't want to use the words wasted, but whada' ya' think? Your comments are appreciated.

Hi Michelle. Denali is being bothered by smoke from fires further to the north - what the situation will be like in 2 weeks is anyone's guess. September is the wettest month, so what we hope is that the fires will be largely put out or that at least the smoke will be washed out of the air. Will your trip north of Anchorage be wasted? - no, but you may not get the long-distance mountain views you hope for.

I would bet that's a hard one to predict because they don't even try to put them out unless it's a danger to developed areas.

Last year the interior didn't clear until October when rain and snow put the fires out. Where the smoke ends up depends on the weather system winds.

We were in Denali July 27th - August 1st and the smoke was terrible. We couldn't see a thing in Denali. We were quite dissapointed.
