How many cruises did it take you to reach platinum?

I'm pretty sure the OP is asking for current information. Lol

The answer is it depends on how many points you earn per cruise.

How do I earn rewards points?

With rewards points, every night counts, so you earn more with each cruise you take.

Earn 1 point for every cruise night

Earn 1 additional point per night when booking a Suite* or in The Haven

Earn 1 additional point per night when booking nine months or more in advance

Earn 1 additional point per night when booking a Latitudes Insider Offer

*Full fare suites booked when reservation was originally made. Does not include mini-suites.

Membership Tiers

Tier Points

Bronze 1-19 points

Silver 20-47 points

Gold 48-75 points

Platinum 76+ points

It is this type of question that for me typifies what a lot of people see is wrong with cruising. Too many continually boast and show off as to what grade of suite they are travelling in and how many points they have gained to move up the social ladder. It shows that there is a class system on board ships similar to the days of Titanic when steerage passengers were treated like second class citizens. Is it time for cruise lines to go "one class" and to dispense with the points scoring excercise?

I just wanted to know because there is discussion that people are reaching Platinum too quickly. However, I think that the added points (booking a suite, or booking early) only help a few cruisers. Overall, I think that the majority of cruisers are still taking about 10 cruises to reach platinum. I also agree that reaching Platinum is easier now, but not for the majority of cruisers.

Your Labour Party colors are showing. What is wrong with a business rewarding repeat customers? I've sailed in a suite and in an outside cabin.

Don't recall being made to feel inferior at any time.

We all make choices as to how we spend our money. That is our right.

Otherwise Henry Ford would still being making only black cars.

Will reach platinum next cruise, # 6. Did a 9 and 12 booking more than 9 months out plus 3 ea 7 days, next one a 19 also doubled to hit 101. I would also like to brag that I sailed in 2 outside cabins, the rest inside, 3 future insides scheduled. For me its all about the itinerary, both outsides were free upgrades.

I hope that this thread does not get out of control. As I said before, the purpose is to see whether or not the majority of cc cruisers have benefited from the changes to the Latitudes program.

Your opening post did not suggest that was the reason for your question. It read totally that you were boasting about your previous cruises in suites and were you not just "fine and dandy" that you had raced up the social ladder to reach platinum latitude points.

Did it the old-fashioned way, with no extra points for anything, so it must have taken me at least 10 week-long cruises.

Coming up next, NCL cruise #25. Should I be disgruntled because I'm not DOUBLE-Platinum? :D

It would seem we have benefited from the relaxed point structure. We attained Platinum after our first 3 cruises. We've always booked nine months or more in advance because of vacation restrictions at work. Our first three cruises were a 7, 14, and 21 night cruises all at double points. Never a suite nor a latitudes offer.

Oh. Well let me wipe the pie off my face. :)

I've only had 7 points for each cruise so far. I always reprice when KSF comes around so even though I book 9 months in advance I lose those points when the trip is repriced. I think this upcoming cruise is the only cruise where I will get points for booking a LAT offer. I probably won't make gold for two more cruises. :) That's fine with me though.

I don't see an issue on the ship. Airlines, hotels, resorts, everyone has "perks" and "frequent user" bonuses. It doesn't bother me when people descend from on high to mingle with the commoners and I'm not intimidated by their rewards or status. I don't know why anyone else would be. I was in the Haven on the Epic and although it's not something we could afford to do every time, the people there weren't any more uppity than the mini-suite folks who frown at the "inside" people who didn't book a balcony.

The most obvious classism - if you have to call it that - is the Haven separate from the rest of the ship. I don't know what LAT points has to do with anything...how am I to know who is getting free laundry or strawberries unless they are posting it on this board. *shrug*

I don't think there needs to be the implementation of socialism or adopt a Marxist viewpoint on cruise ships. The only way to make everything perfectly even is to offer only one category at one price and not give any incentives or perks. What fun would that be?

Please allow me to admire your rapid rise up the social ladder to the peak platinum position. I'm sure that's one item off your bucket list. There is no boasting, just truth and lies.

Thats great , Im cancelling my next cruise.. If what Ewoods says is correct the steerage is now allowed above deck 8 ???

Im with you Ewoods ,, Power to the People ...

NCL should drop the entire loyalty system all together and allow everyone to have the same perks .. It has very little meaning anymore anywho .. ;)

We dont share the same place settings tho do we ???

This is very strange. I don't understand the passive aggressiveness in this thread. There clearly is a back story to all of this which I certainly hope stays waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the back. I didn't denote any ill will from the OP.

Thanks cruisecritquer. Some people just like to fight and argue instead of using CC as a platform for discussion and to share information.
