lyndasilk Posted May 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Hi, I just bought a pink/orange coral gown for formal night on the Disney Cruise and I was wondering what colour shoes I should wear. If I can dye shoes the same colour as the dress, I will go with that option, but I think it will be hard to match the coluour. I was wondering if a pale silver/grey strappy sandal will work? Any comments from you fashion experts? What do you think? Any other suggestions? Thanks for any help you can give me! natalunia Posted May 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2004 The pale silvery grey would work, or a nude colour, or even the clear platic ones. I wouldn't try to match it (very 80's). Plus if you get a neutral color shoe, it can be used with other dresses in the future. I keep a clear plastic, nude, and black strappy heel for my formals. LandLockedInAZ Posted May 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I agree with all of the above suggestions, however, sometimes nothing but dying will do. My daughter wore a brilliant turquoise or teal formal dress for New Year's Eve on the Statendam and I could not justify white, silver or gold with this color and she refused the clear plastic sandals, so we sent out a pair of Dyeables to have them matched. The match was perfect and she looked great! Next up: Diamond Princess 11/20/04!
lyndasilk Posted May 5, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Thanks for the replies, Natalie and LandLockedInAZ! I never thought of the clear, plastic sandals but that's a great idea! I'll have to see if I can find a pair at the mall. And I will keep your comments in mind too, LandLockedInAZ, re Dyables! Thanks again for your feedback! Truffle Posted May 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I think dyeables would be great if you do a strappy sandal. That way they don't look so much like "dyed to match bridesmaid" shoes. Actually, there are soooo many options right now with colored shoes as color is so in for the spring. Take your dress with you when you shop and you may get lucky (probably depends on the stores in your area!)
dcat2u Posted May 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I was looking for some black strappy sandals this past weekend and just about every store had the clear plastic shoes. Last year it took forever to find them, probably cause I needed them so bad-lol! I did find a nice pair with rhinestones across them.
lyndasilk Posted May 5, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Thanks everyone for your input! I really like the clear plastic strappy sandal idea and I hope the stores up here in Ontario, Canada stock them. Something with rhinestones would be perfect because it would match my necklace and earrings! If not, I always have the dyable strappy sandal idea as a backup. And you're right, Truffle, I may even find a matching colour without dying, there are so many spring colours out right now! It's so nice to know that you can count on good fashion advice! That remark about the 80's is probably very accurate re me! I haven't had much chance to buy evening gowns and shoes to match for a long time! Thanks everyone! madelinerose Posted May 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Pink and coral are THE hot summer colors this year! You should have no problem at all finding both or more colors on the same shoe. I know Nordstrom has tons of them. Also check zappos.com. You can put in the color, size, heel height, etc. and find anything you'd like. Good luck! madelinerose Posted May 5, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Lynda, go to nordstrom.com! Since they're so customer service oriented, they'll probably ship to Canada. Sorry, I didn't even notice where you were from. You'll definitely find something at one of these sites. Happy shopping! wantacruise Posted May 6, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Don't count out gold. I posted this on another shoe thread. I have a pair of strappy, backless gold sandels--not the shiny gold but, softer, muted gold. Got them at Cato. That might be an option for your dress instead of silver--warmer color. Jane110 Posted May 8, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Lyndasilk, Orange and coral are so popular this year you might find a great pair of sandals in a shade that blends well with your dress. You might find an orang-y iridescent that looks great with your dress. Bring the dress (or pc of fabric, if possible) out shopping with you. Don't buy the bridesmaid shoes and have them dyed to match. It'll make your dress look cheap, IMO. Metallic sandals are very big this year and gold would compliment the coral of your dress better than silver. There are also a lot of light colored sandals with crystal stones across the straps. That could be very pretty look too. If you go for the clear plastic look, make sure they have some ventillation holes. Jane
lyndasilk Posted May 10, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thanks everyone for your replies! You've given me several ideas to work with! I have a shawl that came with the dress that's the same material, so I'm going to take this into the stores to see what looks best. I agree gold is much warmer so I'll see what it looks like too. And good tip re the ventilation holes on the clear plastic shoes. And I will definitely steer clear of the bridesmaid shoes; you're right, Jane, they would make the dress look cheap! I'm so glad I posted this thread because I might have gone that route and I know I would have been unhappy with that choice. So I will print out all your suggestions and go well armed into the world of shoe stores! Thanks again, everyone, for all your ideas! I really appreciate it!
