Payne's Bay Beach?

We will be in Barbados in April 2015 and are thinking about either taking one of the glass bottom boats from the Boatyard or taking a taxi from port to Payne's Bay then swimming out to see the turtles.

 

But, before deciding I wanted some more info on Payne's Bay Beach. How far is it from port? Are there facilities and somewhere to have lunch?

I have been doing some research and it seems like Payne's Bay is about 20-25 min from port, does that sound right?

I do know our kin , the

Paynes, Harveys/Harvies settled were in this area too when our they settled in what is Bermuda/N. Carolina/Virginia now and in A.D. 1584. Our Harvey direct kin had the first Male child from English Blood in N. America in 1584.

 

The first female was Virginia Dare. Yes dare County, N.Carolina.

Paynes bay is about 20 minutes from the port. Nice beach but lots of vendors hassling. Lots of the beach bars have gone now and last time we were there it was much quieter.

 

Wait until you see the catamarans approaching then swim out about 100 metres and you will see the turtles. The guys from the catamarans feed them bits of fish so there are usually plenty early on in the day. If you leave it till afternoon they will have had their food and gone.

 

There is a bit of a drop as you get into the sea and it can sometimes be a bit rough. Okay once you are in though.

We were there early last November. The taxi ride was not long, maybe 20 minutes. There is a guy with a glass bottom boat that took out for $25 each to swim with the turtles and snorkel over a "shipwreck". We went straight to the beach and were out swimming with the turtles before any big groups. We didn't stay long at the beach itself so can't tell you much.
