We disembark in Papeete early in the morning, but don't leave to fly home until late that evening. Is it possible to leave luggage at the cruise dock or where? And how did you get to the airport? What have people done with that time? We will be there on a Sunday.

Everyone is in the same boat in French Polynesia, so, depending on the ships schedule they sometimes allow passengers to stay longer on the ship, and sometimes arrange for "day facilities" at a hotel. Check with your TA or Oceania directly for specifics on your voyage.

Hi, we were there with Paul Gauguin cruises, and they provided a day room at the Intercontinental, both coming and going. I am sure you could contact Intercontinental and that is available. The airport is close, so you can just take a cab. Great place, just like the pictures and very clean.

Last time in Papeete, Oceania extended a special rate at the Intercontinental for one night, with a late check out time for the "midnight" flight to L.A. Next month, with Regent, we are staying over an extra three days and departing on a morning flight to L.A. on Air France. Both flights are/were with cruise lines "free" (read that as "YOU are paying for it") airfare.

If you're flying with Oceania, no doubt they will take care of you somehow at a hotel like the Intercontinental or Le Meridien. These hotels have day rooms, but they also have day use facilities, with locked luggage storage and access to showers. Just be aware that many dayrooms must be vacated around 6 p.m. That works out okay, since you then can relax in the public areas and have a nice dinner before going to the airport.

If you're doing your own flights, you may have to arrange this yourself with one of the hotels. It's doable, friends did the dayroom at Le Meridien recently, for instance.

If you want to stay in town for a while--Marché hours depend on what day of the week it is, but this is a good way to spend time if you can dump your luggage for a while at the dock. The downstairs is mostly food and flowers, upstairs mostly textiles, carving, etc. You could then proceed to your hotel by cab.

We had the same problem in Jan when will arrived on the Marina. Arranged through Oceania to have a late disembarkation (think it was 2PM) and were taken to a hotel. No day room, but there was a hospitality room with refreshments provided. Spend the time on lounge chairs at the pool and purchased dinner at the hotel's outdoor restaurant before our transfers to PPT. OK day, nothing great nor terrible.

Word to the wise, we flew Air Tahiti and they weighted our carry ons THREE times to find reason to charge us. Also the airport is not air conditioned and is quite hot and humid even at night. We were fortunate to get access to the business class lounge through our membership with AmEx Plat. Had AC.

I know a number of OP's who left the ship the evening before and went to the airport and flew home. The ship usually arrives the day before, so getting off early is no big deal.

No reason to stay in PPT. Get off the night you get into port, get on the flight and head on out.

Interesting. What is the "weight limit" (without charge) for carry-ons at Air Tahiti? We'll be on that itinerary in 2016.
