MiamiNicole Posted May 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I don't know if everyone else here suffers as I do with swimsuits, but I can not seem to find one that looks good and is comfortable. I also am from Miami Beach and I am not about to walk around with a skimpy bikini in front of families (and my Dad!), so what are your "tricks" for swimsuits that are stylish and comfortable. Where do you get them, I am sick of Department store suits, then there is always 5 other women in the same suit!! Also, how is the chlorine in the pool, are the chances of snagging a suit? I once ruined a suit by sitting beside and pool and suddenly jumping in!!! Thanks, just wanted you opinions on the devil of my wardrobe, THE SWIMSUIT!! wantacruise Posted May 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I'm having an awful time myself finding a new suit! I had one ordered from Newport News but it was backordered so long I cancelled it. Then, I ordered two from Chadwicks and both look disgusting! So, guess who is hitting the malls/stores tomorrow!!!! I'm trying TJ Maxx and Ross before the department stores and if all else fails, the swimsuit store in St. Augustine!! I really despise trying on suits--the store mirrors always make you look way bigger. Oh well, we'll see what happens! gymbrat33 Posted May 15, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I'm also from Miami. I always used to buy them at Alice's Day Off and Ritchies swimwear since I wear a thong, but for the cruise I buy a normal bikini that covers my behind since there are a lot of families on the ship. Spicey477 Posted May 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2004 MiamiNicole, I just got an awesome one from the catalog/website, La Redoute. Everything in the catalog comes straight from France (I didn't believe it, but there were customs forms on the package) so you may find something a little more unique than in the dept. stores. And, it is very reasonable on price. Also, bodyhints.com has a ton of interesting/designer suits that are cool. Good luck!
Suncat Posted May 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2004 You'll find it all on ebay!!! Check out Miraclesuit!!! and Carol Wior. Look up seller's Patsysproducts and teacupsrme, they have quite a selection ,ost of the time! Good Luck!!!
JanetMarie Posted May 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2004 For the chlorine issue , I always rinse my suit immediately after I take it off. I carry a little container of Woolite to rinse it out with. wantacruise Posted May 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Miaminicole, Back from the stores! I hit the jackpot at Ross and Bealls. Great selection and great prices--Bealls had all of their suits 40% off. I got one there and a nice Speedo tankini at Ross for a steal. I noticed in Bealls they had some suits that were marked chlorine resistant! I had never seen them before. Good luck with your search. Starz723 Posted May 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2004 UGH! I just went through hours of trying on swimsuits in macys on 34 St in NYC. I have a real swimming swim suit (when I do laps in the pool and for the rough ocean waves). I believe its made by Speedo. It has a racer back which is the best for swimming. I finally decided on a low cut halter top. Im small busted, so the plunge is actually attractive and Im not busting out all over. Halter tops are flattering for my body type. This suit is more for sunning and a dip in the pool. I wouldnt think of wearing it with rough waves or going on a snorkel trip. Id be afraid it would come off..thats why I have a real swimsuit, LOL. MiamiNicole Posted May 20, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Thanks for the advise. I am currently residing in Mexico City, so I am ordering 2 swimsuits from Jcrew and having them sent to my house in Miami, they have some nice colors and the styles are nice for my body (bigger in the hips, smaller in the waist). Thanks again!
Shellyb Posted May 21, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Have you looked at Venus Swimwear?? They have a website you can order from. Here's the best part: They have many different styles for the tops and bottoms in every pattern. You pick the coverage you want for the bottom, the style you want for the top, and the pattern you like. Not too expensive and good quality. JanetMarie Posted May 21, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Shellyb: Yes, I agree with you. They have a variety of suits, nice looking, and moderately priced. Good choice! Ellya Posted May 22, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Another good source for "hard to fit" folks is Victoria's Secret online. Their suits are available with a variety of tops and bottom styles, many sized according to actual measurements and bra sizes.
