It is not possible to not use all of the onboard credit from buying the future cruise certificate. It is used immediately to offset the price of the certificate. $250 paid and $100 refunded.

In other words, and has been my experience, you can buy the certificate for $150.00 and receive no OBC. It's still good for the full $250.00 deposite on your future cruise.

It is "marketed" as an OBC, but that is the same as getting it for $100 off.

 

They charge you $250.

Next line is $100 credit off that $250.
