snorkeling - Gallows Point (review + video)

We just got back from the Carnival Magic, stopping in Belize. The tropical storm had just blown through Central America, rain rain and floods all over the whole area. For that reason, our planned excursion to Xunantunich was canceled. Rivers were over banks and so the ruins were not reachable. Also, most of the cave tubing trips were canceled due to high water levels inside the caves - safety first!

We opted to do the Gallows Point snorkel tour on a catamaran. The boat picked us up at our ship and it was about a 40 minute ride to the reefs. There were at least 50-70 people on the boat, which seemed like alot but once we were all out in the water I never saw a problem. The tour had 2 guys out in kayaks as well as several snorkelers with rings waiting to help anyone as needed. It was a very well run and safe tour. All gear was provided and vests were mandatory.

We all got in the water and spent over an hour snorkeling a gorgeous reef that was very lush and close to the surface.

My video:

AFTER everyone was back onboard from snorkeling, the bar opened with free rum punch and sodas. They cranked up the music on the way back to our ship, and everyone danced and drank beverages of their choice.

Weather was overcast, with a brief shower while we were in the water. Not much you can do about that. We had fun. I would recommend this tour!
